I had to reinstall XP on an old system.. I saved the old file structure. Did all the service packs, etc. Reinstalled BOINC. Merged the old BOINC8 with the new. New BOINC App installed in allusers.windows BOINC folder. Old pending files were in allusers BOINC. I tried dumping the project subfolder in the new install and cut and pasted in the old project folder (with the orphans). I cant seem to get BOINC manager to recognize or crunch them. System is BOINC8 in my stable. Any guidance on fixing this ?

BOINC v8 doesn't exist yet, the latest version we have available is a test version 7.7.2, but otherwise it's 7.6.33/.34 for the rest of the gen.pop. Seti's applications are v8, but they don't run by themselves, only under BOINC.

Copying the old data directory into the new one doesn't work because of permissions. If you want to do this correctly, you first copy the contents of the data directory over, then install BOINC. That way the accounts able to read/write the data directory are set correctly.

But if your new installation has gotten a new hostID because you changed hardware (CPU for instance), it may not work that way. Then it's best to forget about the old installation as you may not even be able to merge the HostIDs here at the project(s).
