Has anyone been able to get the Preferences settings to work when AP and Other is selected? If I use those settings I get nothing but an occasional AP. I have to select SETI@home v8 to actually get any MBv8 tasks. It should work by just choosing 'If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from Other applications?' |

I have to select SETI@home v8 to actually get any MBv8 tasks. It should work by just choosing 'If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from Other applications?' . . That function has been flaky/non-functional since Christmas. That is why people pratice a turn them off then turn them back on process to try and get the servers to acknowledge the need for more work. And sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. Another method is to request an update a few seconds after was has just been done. That can sometimes kick the download process into life as well when the next cycle comes around. Stephen <shrug> good luck |

It would be helpful if someone could identify the Specific Problem. That is why I'm asking if that setting works for ANYONE. Can ANYONE CONFIRM that this Specific Setting Doesn't Work? I'm Well Aware of the problem, just trying to Identify the Specifics. |

I haven't used the 'other' button for ages, but just tried it. AP - yes set - no other - yes Result from 2 boxes: No tasks sent No tasks available for AP v7 |

I have 4 machines that give the same response; AP - yes Seti - no other - yes Results in an occasional AP when available. We haven't had a continuous AP supply recently, so, I haven't been able to test this until now. If I select AP - yes & Seti - yes I get both Seti & AP It would Appear at least the 'If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?' selection is broken. Can someone fix this? It's been like this for Months. |

My guess, and that's all it is, is that the "other" option isn't intended to keep your queue filled, but rather is geared to preventing you from actually running out. So, the scheduler might not send "other" work unless your supply of primary work gets below some specified threshold (which only the scheduler knows), rather than every time it drops below the maximum requested. At least, that would seem logical to me, and would be the way that I'd want it to work if I had my options set that way. Then, if a plethora of the work that I preferred suddenly became available, I'd have plenty of available space in my queue to accept it, rather than having the queue already stuffed with "other" work. Somebody who actually understands the scheduler code would really have to take a look at it to see if that's really what's happening. |

I I understand correctly, the scheduler use to take the priority of (AP or Seti) then fill the remainder with "other" if the request could filled - It hasn't done that for a very long time now. I believe this dates back to the problems in the scheduler when AMD v8.23? was released and failed. |

I was wondering why my cache was running empty, but I have one AP... which shows to run for 12h 23m. It's been quite a while since my BOINC ran AP, if ever at all on this new hostID & new GPU, so no wonder it thinks it's going to take long. Not the amount it thinks it's going to take, that's for sure. :) edit: yep, it ran in 1,088 seconds. Oh fun, it ran first on an Intel GPU, then on my AMD GPU but we didn't reach a good comparison, so now it's sent out to an Nvidia GPU. |

Heh. I have an old IBM Thinkpad which runs 24/7. In the nearly 3 years since AP v7 came along, it has been privileged to process just 24 AP tasks. However, in all that time, only 7 of those have actually qualified toward the 11 "tasks completed" figure that's used to compute estimated run times. So the AP that's now sitting in that macine's queue has an estimated run time of 17d 17:03:29. In reality, it should only take around 48 hours to run, but until the "remaining" time estimate drops below the 2.5 days that I have the buffer set for, the AP will be the only thing in the queue. At that point the AP will really only have about 6 hours left to run. If I'm lucky, perhaps I'll reach the 11 task threshold sometime in 2019. :^( |

Yeah that is how the If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? option used to work. When I had my options set for AP: Yes, MB: no, Other apps: Yes many moons ago that is how it worked anyway. When there was regular AP work that configuration would keep the caches mostly full of AP tasks with an odd MB task now and then when the feeder didn't have any. I later stopped using the other apps option. Since I found it easier to toggle AP or MB for the venues when needed a better option. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours ![]() |

Ah, we're back again. Web site went AWOL for a few minutes & Scheduler requests failed: Couldn't connect to server for 12min or so. Grant Darwin NT |

I noticed that too. I had downloads in progress that retried for around 5m45s. |

Getting work is proving difficult again. Flipping application settings back and forth, waiting for several Scheduler requests each time & still the Scheduler doesn't want to give out any work. EDIT- just picked up 30 WUs on one request, then back to no work available again. Grant Darwin NT |

I thought it was just me, but guess not. My main box has been having trouble filling the cache for 5 hours now - since a 2 hour power outage. |

I thought it was just me, but guess not. My main box has been having trouble filling the cache for 5 hours now - since a 2 hour power outage. Looking back through my log, it's been going on for about 2.5hrs on my system. Cache drops by 5-30WUs, then they all come down in one hit, then the cache starts falling again. Rinse and repeat.
