I have several Sony Elcaset decks, and blank tapes for them.

I hadn't heard of that one.
Looks like it lasted about as long as DCC (which was meant to be a competitor to DAT- but DAT was was already well established in professional use, even though it never gained any acceptance for general public use, as neither did DCC).

Elcaset wiki.
Sony Elecaset on ebay.
They are a sought after collector's item, and commanding a good price.

Nice picture Chris. You have a much better camera than anything I have access to. All I can do is get a little pill sized moon.

Great picture Chris. This just shows how far on the small bridge cameras have come-on in recent years.

Here was the night before the full moon. This view was from the albuquerque airport. This was hand held. I tried to zoom in closer but keeping it steady was not eazy. This is with a Nikon P900 16MP24-2000mm or 83x Optical Zoom.

Here is what it is capable of with a tripod.

Hand-held shooting with long lenses is quite an art, and does involve quite a few wasted shots.

When I get home I'll post one I took a few days ago with a D7000 and a Sigma 500mm zoom at full stretch (equivalent to about x15, 50mm is equivalent to about x1.5). I tend to work handheld as it gives me the mobility to grab shots without having to work out how to position the tripod etc. - one day I'll try using the Sigma on a tripod and see what it will really do....

At the other extreme I've done time lapse star trails using a 10mm (x 0.2) and they are "quite mind bending" these are typically made from ~1000 off 20second exposures - one does need still & cloudless which and they are VERY rare in the UK at this time of year :-( And one definitely needs to use a tripod and dew heater for them, even in the summer!

You are probably seeing pixelation not out of focus - both look similar, but the cause is different.
Out of focus is an optical situation, where everything just looks fuzzy/misty, which is not the case with your picture.
Your picture looks pretty sharp, but very close to the limits of the sensor in terms of contrast definition. A problem with smaller cameras is that the sensor is quite small (6.16 x 4.62 mm) compared to a "full" DX sensor (24x16 mm), thus although the pixel count may be the same each pixel is about 1/16 the area, so is about 1/16 as sensitive. JPEG compression further compounds the situation by effectively "smudging" neighbouring similar pixels together to save space.
Laying all that to one side it's still a great picture Chris, really showing how far these cameras have come on in recent years.

Author Mark Haddon read his new contemporary ghost story, 'The Bunker'. Set ...

... in the York Cold War Bunker.
What an interesting evening! Thank you for sharing your observations with us.
Just been announced that English Heritage have collaborated with Google to put the bunker tour online: Google visits the York Cold War Bunker

My 2¢: they've turned the lighting up for filming - it looks bright and cheerful there, but in the flesh it was subdued and serious. And you see much more on a site visit - this is just a taster, but more accessible if you don't live nearby.

From the looks of that Google tour, they've done an exceptional job of restoring & maintaining the bunker.

Yes, on my tour they mentioned that they had been careful to restore original details like the colour scheme for the walls - deliberately chosen with the psychological health of the inmates in mind.

PC Beats Lawyers in Legal Prediction Contest
Computers can beat lawyers at predicting the outcome of cases according to a recent test. Organizers say an artificial intelligence program might even have uncovered insight into what influences case decisions.

...
Computer 'Out-Predicts' 100 Lawyers

To test its effectiveness, it challenged 100 lawyers to a week-long contest. Both the humans and Case Cruncher were given facts about real cases submitted to the Financial Ombudsman and asked to guess what the outcome was.

KFC selling chicken-scented bath bombs

If you’ve ever longed to immerse yourself in a steaming bath of chicken broth, the opportunity has now presented itself.

On Oct. 31, KFC Japan announced a partnership with Japanese retailer Village Vanguard on Twitter to produce — no joke — fried-chicken-scented bath bombs, for a limited time only.

Be thankful you exist at the same time as kfc bath bombs http://pic.twitter.com/y3CASlgu18

The drumstick-shaped bath bombs will be crafted with “eleven secret herbs and spices,” allowing you to soak in deep-fried scented glory, according to the Independent.

Reminds me of that show, Deadliest Roads, when they were in the Himalayas hauling wide loads on perilous winding highways.

I'd be a little bit concerned what being that way is doing to the fluids. While it isn't running, that may not be good for the A/C oil sump, brake fluid reservoir, trans, washer and the battery acid. Radiator should be fine.
