and here I thought some of the junk they are trying to sell on TV ads now days was weird "... 8 WEIRD VINTAGE PRODUCTS YOU'D BE HARD-PRESSED TO FIND NOWADAYS Over the years, plenty of kitschy products that turned out to not be as groundbreaking as we once thought have come and gone. From the vibrating "workout" belt of the 1950s to the Zunes of the 2000s, many of these products are long forgotten. However, thanks to the magic of advertisements, many of the ideas of these silly novelty products live on. |

Was just poking around on the local real estate property tax website, and found Papa John's house here is assessed at $11 million, with a tax bill this year of about $38,000. That's a lot of pizza! The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Just to give it some context, $11 million for a house is a lot of money in Louisville. My house, which my parents bought in the 1960's for less than $15 thousand, is assessed at around $126 thousand now, and it is a nice 3 bedroom house with a basement on a 1/4 acre lot. Louisville real estate is cheap, so Papa John really has a mansion. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Just to give it some context, $11 million for a house is a lot of money in Louisville. Lol, well, it is, you're right, and proportionately speaking, it's a huge difference here. The low end on prices on decent houses here is about where I live, and then they go up from there, but anything over a million is very rare, actually, so Papa John's $11 million home is probably one of the most expensive places in Louisville. My place for tax purposes is worth $14,500.00 total, but since I can't move My place to its own land by state law in CA, its real worth is $0.00 to Me, next year I'm going to try and have the taxable worth reduced to below $7,000.00, then I'll owe $0.00 in Property Taxes, instead of $75.00 a year, though I'd most likely still owe $5.30 for a hazardous waste fee every year. Interesting. a 3br on 1/4 acre here in my hood would go for about $1M. So $11M there would be around $100M here, or the Playboy Mansion which did sell for $100M. That's a lot of house. |

Are tax records in the public domain in the States? As far as Jefferson County, which includes the city of Louisville, Kentucky, the law says these records are indeed public domain. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Are tax records in the public domain in the States? The reason I showed them here is so people can see how real estate works in different places. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Are tax records in the public domain in the States? Even here in San Bernardino County CA, property taxes is a matter of public record, all one needs is an assessors parcel number, and one can see what someone else pays. And taxes are deductible to one extent or another on ones income tax forms, or at least it currently is, some in Congress want to change that for state, local, and property taxes. It always amuses me the differences between the UK and the USA Closing costs typically also include a few other things: the Realtor's commission, title insurance, prorated property tax, inspection fees, and a home warranty. |

Are tax records in the public domain in the States? Doesn't look like Google has put the plot map as a layer there, but it looks like the property has a couple of detached guest houses, a couple lakes, at least a couple holes of private golf course ... |

Say No to the Stamp Act of 1776, it's revolting. There are no sales and/or vat taxes on property, at least in California, and VAT doesn't exist anywhere in the US, in the US only Congress has the power to enable a VAT tax, but has never used it, yet. VAT is a tax on sales (as well as many other transactions) - you have GST, which is a fair approximation to it. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

In the US we don't have a value added or sale tax on real estate. However, we do have a capital gains tax. Subject to a number of exclusions we have to pay tax on the gain we realized on the sale of property. Ie: if we buy a house for $1 million and sell it for $1.5 then we would pay tax on the $0.5 million. (unless you are a married couple and lived in the house for 2 of the prior 5 years in which case you get to exclude half a million and pay no tax.) |
