New credit card didn't come Saturday, so I'm using my secondary card for this road trip. It's probably in my mailbox right now, while I'm hundreds of miles away.

Ok I went to the Doctor today, I got Myself weighed, twice, the 1st is ridiculous, the 2nd was 416lbs, My ribs are ok, Doc said if they were fractured when He pushed on them I'd have hit the ceiling, so it's a mystery, I was told to just grin and bear it, then My insurance for some reason won't pay for more than 30 days of a prescription on one type of pills, terbinafine, but I did get the pills, got to talk to IEHP on that...

This Earth man's lifestyle seems to be coming together.

On Tuesday, the new credit card came. Also, I got a 70% on my CPAP printout for the last 30 days, which got me my DOT card. With that in hand, I went back to the new job. They said to come back Wednesday for training. I did that, concluding with practice driving in Clearing Yard. Now I'm just waiting for the background checks. I should hear in about a week.

Some of the people here just might be able to take advantage of this.
The National Park Service Life Time Senior Pass.

Price goes up Monday from $10 to $80.

If you are 62 this is a great deal. I have had to pay for daily passes that have cost me much more than $10 each time. Sucks being young :-)

Recently we had "smart" locks BRICKED by firmware/software updates (see post# 1883732).... now we can add some "smart" TV's in the SAME category too!

Nasty firmware update butchers Samsung smart TVs so bad, they have to be repaired
On the plus side, at least they didn't explode

Owners of Samsung smart TVs say their swish sets are basically unusable after a bungled firmware update.

In fact, the update was so bad, it looks as though it will require people to send or bring their televisions back to base for repair to correct the cockup.

Folks on Samsung UK's support forums report that an update released on August 8 rendered many newer smart sets – such as 50-inch Ultra HD and 49-inch 4K displays – worse that dumb TVs, because dumb TVs actually work.

Judging from the dozens of complaints, the gear functioned as expected prior to getting the most recent firmware upgrade from the South Korean giant. After that software is installed, the space-age tellies are stuck on a single channel, the remotes don't work, the volume can't be adjusted, or they are just totally inoperable, it is claimed.

Lovely, I'm only too glad that My 55" Samsung UN55D6050TXZA, a 2011 model HD TV set, has not had an update since I bought it.

Hey, that's planned for next week. patience mon amie :-)

We all know about the Mexican wave, at least that is audience participation, not much evidence of that in the Mexican wall.

Would that be the one you bought second hand on Ebay from a Gofundme, and never worked properly because of duff diodes down one side and corner. Did you ever get it repaired?

I think you might already know that answer. No word on a fix that I'm aware of. It is probably still on the future list.

Got no mail yesterday, so the COBRA insurance is still pending. It's supposed to be retroactive, but I don't plan to test that unless it's an emergency. They did cash the check I sent them for the first partial month. Need to ask the new job what they offer; paying the full price for the COBRA is way too much beyond the end of this year.

Got an email from the new job with an extra online training thing I had to do; did it.

Yes, the tv works well enough, the led backlighting is a no worse than before, the replacement power board has not been repaired yet, I've been busy, lately with surgery, My car, the power board will get repaired and then swapped, just not today, I have the manufactured home to work on next, specifically the gas central furnace for heat, then property taxes, then 2 plumbing issues, then electrical, then I can get to the TV power board. If I were rich, everything would be solved, months ago, but I'm not, I never have been, and I never will be rich either. So I just keep plugging away at it Chris S. It's not like I can go pan for gold, the nearest river near where I live at is underground. So I'll get there, I just have many miles to go, before I sleep.

I just got a phone call from someone, I knew it was a solicitation because of the pause after I picked up the phone. After the other person spoke I said " FBI, agent Treger" . He replied " Not a problem, I'll put you on our do not call list".
One small victory for mankind.

Zebrafish are getting themselves high — and that could help us develop new addiction treatments

When given the chance, zebrafish willingly dose themselves with opioids — even putting themselves at risk in order to get their fix.

Scientists tested the drug-seeking behavior in a tank that allows the fish to trigger the release of the opioid hydrocodone in the water. The new tool, described in a study published online today in Behavioral Brain Research, can be used to study the underlying biological pathways that push zebrafish to seek drugs. And because zebrafish and humans are surprisingly similar, that could tells us more about biological pathways in people. Eventually, this could lead to new treatments for addiction.
