Is there a map or data on places not connected by BT copper.A good question to which I'm afraid I haven't got a good answer. You can assume that remotest rural areas won't likely have a direct local distribution service. Underground cabling is only feasible in Towns and Cities, elsewhere an overhead route and dropwires are used. If you are rural and there are no telephone poles anywhere to be seen, you may have a problem. Check with neighbours or the village shop, have they got service. The thing is I don't think, with a little help from traveling north of the Caledonian Canal for a few months checking that LOS paths agreed with the calculated results, that there are many inhabited places that don't have BT copper coverage on mainland UK. We never had any problems calling our boss, or once we had their number talking to the other teams about plans for the next day. P.S. As a result of that little period, I hate caravan owners. |

I take it that you had your injections and had to show your passport? Only when I go east, into white rose territory. But it is a good idea to take bug repellent in the warmer months (I don't think it can pass for summer under most descriptions). |

You'll find me hiding behind the sofa ....... Chris, maybe thinking twice from a different perspective before posting would save the wear'n'tear on that sofa mate. ;-) Cheers. |

Some may feel that their "Gut Feelings" are honest 1's Chris, but by the time that you air them in public others find huge holes in them and that's why others of late have been poking their fingers through some of your hol..., er, posts. ;-) The old tradesman theory of measure twice before cutting can also be applied to thinking twice before posting, the "gut feeling" usually brings a lot of people disaster just like a bad cut. ;-) But then that's likely why you posted, "From him that has a reputation for insulting whole countries!!", very likely because you don't think 1st and then wonder why you get some flack later. Have a good day buddy. Cheers. |

I am? You are? No skin off or brown stuff on my nose. Just live with then and expect the repercussions. But thinking twice with a good dose of common sense (you use to have that) thrown in first goes a lot further these days with better mileage. ;-) [edit] Anyhow I'm copping some flack here so we'll take this up again tomorrow if you like. Cheers. |

In 2017, science is a political tennis ball being served hard and fast. It's a buffet from which people on the left and right cherry pick their information. It's something to be believed in or doubted. Is Neil deGrasse Tyson worried? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDLFItfX9Jw |

Here's a Reason Not to Smile Sunday, May 7th, is the World's Laughing Day. A laugh should prolong life and be good for us, but why do we really laugh? We have asked Sophie Scott, professor of cognitive neuroscience at the University College of London, who research on laughter. A laugh prolong life, you say. Is it true? "I do not find any equivalent to the expression here in England, but you Swedes may laugh more!" |

A most appropriate response indeed :-)) In my area of this country. We have enough weather events that take roof shingles to flight. ![]() ![]() |

Apparently these solar tiles are made of glass to simulate roof tiles. Roof shingles were originally made from Cedar wood, but more modern ones are from asphalt. In the UK down my road, some of the houses built at the turn of the century (1900) still have the original slate roofs, but 90% have been replaced with modern concrete tiles. They are heavy and won't blow off in a storm. The drawback is that the concrete tiles being heavy, the older roofs need reinforcing timbers in the roof structure to take the weight. If not you get a sagging top roof line. In sensible places there are bye-laws which ensure you keep the original look. That is you must stay with slate. It's usually a bad roof angle that causes tiles to be lifted and blown off in high winds. There are bye-laws about roof angles in places as well. |
