I'm glad that you found it funny. I thought it was disrespectful to Eric, the Director of Seti@Home, who was making a very serious point. There is a time and place for levity, and I would judge that this is not it.

Tough! When did you pass the bar?

It would appear that what you are saying is that not all here represented are clear thinkers and logical planners.........

Hey, Eric!

Sorry to hear that you have been getting curry from ill-informed persons.

However, I have a nit-picking problem with your rules:

The (mostly) archaic second-person singular possessive pronominal adjective is “thy”, not “thine”. “thine” is the possessive pronoun, as in “This book is thy book: this book is thine.” If you were to use the now (almost) universal second-person plural instead, it would be equivalent to you saying — “this book is yours book.”

Shakespeare uses “thine” at least once, for liaison, as in Pelonius’s speech to his son Laertes — “This above all: to thine own self be true, ...” (Hamlet)— but despite the identical spelling, it is still the possessive pronominal adjective “thy” with an “n” added to the end to make it liaise (easier to say) with a word beginning with a vowel (own). None of your nouns following “thine” begin with a vowel, and the sound grates.

Regards,

George

OMG

I know right? Using "thine" instead of "thy", that's unforgivable. I wonder how many people will NEVER CRUNCH FOR THIS PROJECT AGAIN because of it.

I think you guys are being too critical of gwg. I thought his post was informative and I applaud his knowledge of language.

Did he miss the point of Eric's post? Or was gwg just being playfully helpful? Either way I'm sure Eric appreciates the fun pedanticism.

I'm sure you read what he (gwg)wrote, but i'm am not sure that you realize that what you thought he said was not what he meant... ;->

You got me there. I'm a scientist, so you can't really expect me to speak (or write) English properly. I should have done it in French where the rules are more obvious.

Always have an open mind.
If you didn't why would you be here trying to find other minds?
Love your statement.
I feel a vast majority of us are open minded.
The others are closed to new opportunities and friendships.

Talking about science,

doesn't matter what Eric's views are, we just focus on what he contributes.
doesn't matter what some people are saying other people, we focus on everything related to science.
doesn't matter if Newton believed in alchemy and occult, we focus on laws of motion
doesn't matter if Galileo disowned his views in the end, we focus on the telescope and what he saw

Talking about promoting this culture of digital charity and voluntary contribution.....so that one day data crunching, storage, moderation be seen as an integral part of daily routine of billions of people.....eliminating the two evergreen roadblocks of money and time.....so that science does not wait for something as stupid as parliamentary bills and Giga flops per second..........

Now that's a completely different story, which is called common social responsibility. Disheartening and Demotivation are like cancer for this purpose. We should be very careful of what words we are using, and where.
Doesn't matter if a few thousands of people are donating billions of creds per month. Thats not even a fraction of the scale we want to achieve. We want everyone in this.

Eric, Personally and Professionally, I believe you and the other Project Leaders are doing an excellent job. On the matter of "Free Speech" in our forums, I believe that all people should act and speak in a meaningful and polite manner. They should be precise and not use any forms of language that would reflect poorly on themselves or their team. We all know that Freedom of Speech does not give anyone the Right to yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater. Free speech has consequences and responsibilities in order to maintain our levels of free speech in each of our societies. Some of the hurtful and/or vulgar language being posted on our forum and others is useless. When I see that someone posts a comment or reply using inappropriate language or grammar, I just go on to the next comment or reply. The effect of using inappropriate language only shows that the individual needs another means of verbal release, like screaming into a pillow. It has the same impact over time. I would not want to be remembered for any forms of foul language. Rather, I would like to be remembered for my successes, good deeds and the "content of my character." Constructive criticism is useful if it identifies the "situation," and gives a reasonable "corrective" suggestion. I do enjoy reading about problems and suggestions. It helps everyone understand what you intended to say and what you see as a fix for the issue. A complaint without a suggestion for fixing the problem is just wasted breath, or in this case - typing. Y'all keep up the good work!!!
If it is to be - it is up to me!

When you say "are", that implies current and not past tense, so what would history have to do with it? Are you suggesting recent history has shown that more KKK members are part of the democratic party? Or are you referring to the distant past, before the parties switched in the mid-twentieth century? If you are referring to the distant past, why should the current democratic party be associated with the KKK when that was the old democratic party before they became republican?
