Any possibility that you might have a good backup of that part of the data? . . I don't know that they have copies of the split data but I think they have the original tapes/data and can resplit it and send it back to the field :) More stuff to crunch !!! Stephen :) |

Thank God we're not on the Nina, the Pinta, or the Santa Maria. We sail the Universe from the comfort of our easy chairs. I can't complain about a glitch here or there. Keep up the great work, Team! |

Could there be a sabotage of hackers? |

Many thanks to Eric for keeping us informed of what the problems are. When it's things like this that they cannot control, we understand, and they have all our best wishes to solve it quickly. . . Two of my rigs have been without SETI tasks for most of today , but they have E@H as backup and have been RACking up some nice numbers there. The third rig has not been set up to do E@H as until now it has not run out of work. But as of an hour ago it has been idle and I am about to create a third host profile to keep it busy too. The E@H brownie points are growing rapidly LOL Stephen P.S. I hope the database damage is not very extensive and only very few records are lost, but I have three rigs ready to crunch when there are more WUs to chew on. :) |

Hah, and I just started processing work units again. . . So it's your fault then? LOL . . Jestin' Stephen :) |

Paranoia must be contagious, I was wondering that same thing. Just keep the project ticking over to cover up that fact that E.T. has phoned home? LOL . . Idle imaginations can be dangerous :) Stephen :) |

[tongue in cheek]Here I am thinking that we really discovered ET and now they are doing just enough to keep us from discovering that we found them[/tongue firmly in cheek} If that had happend the C.I.A & N.S.A would have been " knockin the doors down " to prevent release ( coz the public CAN'T know and the US government ALWAYS knows best R.O.F.P.M.S.L ) and certain people would probably be " guests " of the US government ;-) . But then there's lways a " maybe " in't there , not like the Uni has had " dealings " with certain agency's in the past have they ;-) Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

The ONLY frustrating part for me is seeing all you newbies, within the last 5 - 10 years, that have 3, 4, 5 TIMES as many work units done than I do :-( My PC is on 24/7, unless it freezes or crashes during the night, and I have an 8 core AMD, 6 cores are dedicated to SETI, and I run Nvidia CUDDA. Just installed SETI on my 2 PC's at work too :-D I work in Data Storage, keep trying to get my company to donate one of our smaller systems, but at 1.2 million each, they are a bit leery. I'll keep working on it, maybe one of these days. I reject your reality and substitute my own boincstats.com |

"In my case I currently have two computers on 24/7. One is my desktop which has a 4 core / 4 thread i5-4590, 3.3 GHz, and an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB. So far I get the most credit per day by having the 1060 crunch 4 work units at a time and dedicate 0.25 CPU core to each task. This leaves 3 cores free to clobber non-GPU tasks. So I'm usually crunching 7 tasks at a time. This leaves my GPU 98-100% busy all the time it has taks, and the CPU around 95-98% busy. That small amount of "free" time keeps the system from bogging down while I'm doing other light stuff like web browsing. It also allows the CPU to stay in "turbo" mode at 3.5 GHz nearly all the time." Hi I have basically the same computing hardware. Can you share your BOINC config? |

Sure: My file app_config.xml looks like this... <app_config> <app> <name>setiathome_v8</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.25</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>.25</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> <app> <name>astropulse_v7</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> The AstroPulse units tend to pull more CPU as they run, so I only process one at a time on the GPU. Still experimenting with those, but they're pretty rare (a few per month at most), so pretty much just guessing what's "best" there. |

Status update: The checks are still running but should be finished within a few more hours. The worst case scenario is probably restoring from a backup either one or two weeks old, so we lose two weeks of processing. I'm still hopeful that we can avoid that. Best case scenario is that we can snip out the problem areas and only lose a few pulses. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |

Which just leaves the issue of how did the corruption occur. Hardware of software ? And the biliion dollar question will it happen again ? |

SETI most of all needs patience, if you haven't got it then perhaps your on the wrong project! |

LOL just undergoing my Hardwares some changes, especialy new Graphiccards, and allready wondering why on most of the new configured systems no Tasks comes in for ATI or Nvidia cards new atached :D seems it will solve when Data is back online ;) My Androids allready run outa work, PC´s have caged tasks. Nevermind, hopefully when Data is up again new confs will push me out of 5% to 1% ... good crunching :) |
