The new "to me at least" GPU process is using 3 times the CPU the regular CPU tasks are using. The old process by different name, was using 1/10 the CPU as the CPU tasks. What changed or is this a defect? GPU process version 8.22 GPU: Nvidia 460GTX driver version: 376 (Ive issues with newer versions on other applications, this is the last stable version Ive found) CPU: Intel q9450 4core no HT |

No defect, these are now OpenCl applications used for analyzing data sets from Green Bank Observatory. By default they use upward and to include 1 full core per work unit. If using a full core is too much for your system, or if you don't want it using a full core then there are 2 ways by which to reduce CPU usage. Both involve the use of commandline -use_sleep This can be place either into the mb_cmdline-8.22_windows_intel__opencl_nvidia_SoG.txt command line file or something similar or in the app_info.xml or the app_config.xml If you don't want to use the SoG app at all, then the best option is to download the lunatics installer and select a cuda app that you would prefer, but be aware that BLC will eventually become the standard work unit here at Seti and cuda apps are not every effective at processing them. There is an experimental cuda app testing but not yet ready for broad distribution. |
