My fairly new PC just updated to the most recent Win10 release, 1607.xxxx.953 and since has been hanging whenever the BOINC/SETI screensaver starts. It's a hard hang too, the screensaver hangs, the keyboard and mouse are also dead. It takes a power off to restore the PC to running status. I am going to disable the GPU to see if there is a contributing factor there as my first step. Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? 7.6.33 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz [Family 6 Model 94 Stepping 3] (8 processors) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (4095MB) driver: 375.63 OpenCL: 1.2 INTEL Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (6506MB) OpenCL: 2.0 Microsoft Windows 10 Core x64 Edition, (10.00.14393.00) Helping where I can. Unless you really love the "eye candy" its just another processing sink. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Might be better to ask this question in number crunching... https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=10 Been out of the loop too long with Intel Graphics. The only thing that jumps out at me is the OpenCl 2.0.. ![]() ![]() |

Disabled the GPU, no more hangs. Assume problem solved. Number crunching forum seemed way busy for this simple Windows question. Thanks all. Helping where I can. Hindering everywhere else. |

That suggests a problem with your video card when it's under load. Which also means that if you do anything else that creates just as much load on the GPU, there's still a possibility of a hard system lockup. So then the problem isn't solved, you've merely masked it. I would recommend cleaning the dust out of your GPU's fans and disabling GPU acceleration in applications that can cause conflicts with crunching, or failing that you can tell BOINC not to use the GPU when certain applications are running. I use that option to use my PC for gaming without causing lockups or framerate problems. |
