On the 29th of April 2009 my girlfriend and I sat up late and watched the DVD "Alan Carr's Easy way to stop smoking". We smoked our last cigarette and went to bed . We woke up the next day as happy non smokers and I have remained so since then. Unfortunately the girlfriend relapsed after 5 years whilst on a trip to Paris, apparently it was very trendy to smoke in Paris at that time. I highly recommend this DVD if you can find it.

Mark,

I found a PREVIEW of the book that the DVD is based on Monday mentioned.
On GOOGLE BOOKS. Appears to have a good number of pages that are viewable using your web browser.

Check your local or regional library they might have the book and/or DVD to borrow if you want to "try them out before buying". I see even my (small) local town library has both of them available.

Wishing your the best of sucess!

I am looking for a copy of that DVD.

And, on another note.
Most of you know that I am a man of faith.
And this is a good read, if you are interested.

Yeah, thanks, but I had already found that one.
Problem is, it's a region 2 european version and will not properly play back on US systems, as far as I am aware.
And I would not do real good with the book version.
But I'll keep checking. Did not find one on ebay either when I looked yesterday.

Just a bit of an update.
My elder kitties are showing their age these days. But, they still love me to bits every time I go to bed with them.

For me, life's been pretty good. And in this day and age, that is probably better than good.

But.........here comes the confession..................
I drank tonight. After a year and a half or so, I succumbed.
A small bottle of whiskey that I bought on a whim about a month ago.
I guess I did it to prove who's boss. Me or the bottle.
And I found my answer. I was right. It is not good for me, and it is never going to rule my life ever again.

Some folks would think that this is the end...............LOL, NOT.
Kinda like having an affair knowing when you go into it that it's a one night stand.

I guess I just had to prove it to myself that I could pick it up and kick it right back to the curb.

And there is not a doubt in my mind that I am now the boss, not the bottle.

I thank all of you, very much, for having stayed with me for all of these long years. Climbing out of the rabbit hole was a very hard thing to do. But I have the upper hand now, so you needn't worry.

I am not gonna sell my soul to the devil just so I can drink.

Mark, I do not think any of us here in the SETI forums will give up on you for one small infraction - especially when you are open and honest as to what happened.

Letting us know what happened is a sign that things are MUCH better for you now than it was the past and you are SUCCEEDING!.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

BTW... have you been able to quit smoking yet?

Here is a little something to cheer you up:

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts.
Part of quitting is telling others so they can offer support or call you out if you fail.
I can tell you that I have no desire whatsoever to repeat the 'test'.
Life has just been so much better since I gave up the bottle.
It was a one time event, and actually reinforced my desire not to go back there again.

I am good, folks. And intend fully to stay that way. And although quitting smoking has not happened yet, it is still on my kitty radar screen.

Again, I thank you all for supporting me. A few kind words go a long long way.

Meow,
Mark

Good stuff, Mark.
And I think you may be amazed at how much better you'll feel when you dump the smokes. I know I was.

Kittyman.

What will you do when your kitties pass?

I don't know how many cat's you have but given your nom-de-plume here cats are a strong part of your life.

We all succumb to something.

Do you have a back up plan for when things go totally crap? (When the cats die?)

Kitties are the eyes of Ra and walk amongst us.

If you loose yourself.. you might loose us..

.... and we like you here..

Stay safe Kitty.

Stay safe Kitty.

I am staying safe.
My two elder kitty sisters are all I have right now.
When they pass, I will eventually adopt from the shelter again.
It will be very hard when they go, as I have had them since they were little kittens.
But I will not let it push me over the edge.
My bubble stays pretty well in the middle these days, and I intend to stay there.

I'm glad :)

In terms of wagons... a step down to test the ground beside it I think is something most everyone with a drinking problem, has a go at, at some point, and once the results are in, is simply part of the process we need in order to get straight back on it again, hopefully this time for keeps. You can feel truly proud of yourself for what you've managed to achieve :)

I like your analogy of stepping off the wagon to see how solid the ground beneath it is. I found mine to be very firm. And I am not feeling the need to repeat the experiment any time soon. It served it's purpose.
Thank you for your thoughts, Annie.

Mark, Im not a regular reader on any of the forums here. Not even the raccoon team thread.( 12 hour shifts wil do that. Id rather sleep.)
But I just had to pop in and see what was going on in the cafe.
So you fell off the wagon, Im glad you got back on it again. Shows you have the guts to stay on it.
As for the ciggs. Ive told you how hard it was for me to quit . And I fell off that wagon many times. Hopefully it wont take you 15 years to quit like It did for me. Ive now been cigg free since August 10 1989.

Glad to hear your doing well.

Thanks, James. I would not quite call what I did falling off of the wagon. It was an intentional one night thing. Not like I went on a week long bender or turned around and did it again a week later. And I believe I said somewhere along the road to where I am now that I was not saying that I would never ever drink again.
But, being sober is very good for me and I am happy to be so now.
And the cigs are gonna join the whiskey bottle on the trash heap one of these days.

And hiya, Chris, old buddy. Good to see you pop in for a visit! Yes, things are going quite well for me, and I hope they are for you as well.

Meow for now,
Mark

It's a special day for my kitties today. Kitty birthdays.
Bandit and Purrball are 17yo today!
They are both showing signs of being more frail these days, but still love me so very much and I love them back.
Happy Birthday, kitties!
