Watching a great show on Paramount+. MobLand. Trust me, this is not for kids. But Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, the family mob boss, is turning in a record winning performance, and also Tom Hardy as 'the fixer'. As is Helen Mirren, playing Conrad's devious wife. Meowsigh. Paid a few bucks to watch "Flight Risk". Expected a blockbuster with Mark Wahlberg headlining. I'm a little over a third of the way through, and so far, it's a low budget stinker. Not at all what I would have expected with Mark involved. EDIT......... Man, this is really really bad. Wahlberg has aged beyond belief, just horribly, and hardly looks or sounds like himself. Even the makeup when she beats him in the face sucks. I can't believe this is so bad. And neither one of them notices the pilot whittling away at his restraints with his sunglasses frame? They can come up with as many plot twists as they can, but it ain't gonna save this flight. Just a tragic waste of cinematic time. And the last Mark Wahlberg flick I shall ever watch. Kitties say 'crash landing'. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

I love the honesty of your reviews, straight to the point, sometimes a bit "salty" in their language, but nothing too salty. Sorry you had to pay good money to see a film you didn't enjoy. I think we've all done that, so we know just where you are coming from :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Thanks Rob. I am just trying to save others from the same agony I am going through. The kitties are burying this movie and Mark Wahlberg's career deep in the litterbox. At least if others choose to watch it to see what I am talking about, they have been forewarned. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

And what's even worse????? In the end credits, I see that this debacle was directed by Mel Gibson. Now, many facets of my movie enjoyment have been shattered beyond belief. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

I don't pretend this will work for everyone (everyone's personal tastes are different of course) but I've avoided plenty of bad movies by sticking to a 7+ rating at IMDB with >1K ratings (unless it's very old and not well-known.) For new movies the >1K is a must because of internet rating pumping; often everyone involved with the movie will ask their friends/family to give it a "10" but as soon as it's on video/streaming with public reviews it sinks like a stone. This particular title has a 5.2 with 29K ratings so qualifies as a Stinker. :^) I also give leeway to the horror and comedy genres as reactions to those vary more widely than dramas or action.

As I said............. The kitties give it a litterbox rating of 'bury it deep'. And if you know kitties, you know what that means. I'm gonna rewatch "Cowboys and Aliens" now. That will keep the kitties out of the deep litterbox digging. Thanks, and keep on meowing. Meow, Mark. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

Just to digress................ It's like the last half a dozen movies made with Bruce Willis as headliner. I've watched them all, and they all stank to high heaven. Bruce was just not there anymore. You could see it in his eyes and lack of facial expression. He had simply left the building. Totally absent. Nothing left to contribute. And I feel so bad for him, because he gave us all SO much entertainment over his long career. But life has it's way of taking what it has given. I am in the latter stages of my life. Had a heart attack, open heart surgery, triple bypass. I am here for as long as the Lord above allows me to remain. Could be years, could be days. I simply do not know. And I am quite OK with that. Every day, if I wake up, I thank the Lord for giving me a night's sleep and waking me for another day. I do not live in fear or dread. What would be the point? I am thankful for every moment that the Lord allows me to to continue. And when He has decided that I am done here, I shall be quite happy to join Him up above. The kitties are burying this movie and Mark Wahlberg's career deep in the litterbox. and the followup: The kitties give it a litterbox rating of 'bury it deep'. Do I see the start of a new Kittyman Film Rating system? Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Some more encouraging news today. Gawd, I am always so behind the curve. But........ I just watched 'Chicago'. The 2002 version. I have always been a big fan of musicals. From 'The Music Man' to 'West Side Story' to 'Mama Mia'. But I had never watched Chicago. It is excellent. Very robust cast. The plot is enough to keep the movie rolling. Excellent acting and cinematography. The soundtrack is a delight and a couple of songs just about steal the show. The choreography is to die for, as are the outstanding performances. I am wondering if in today's times, they would still get a PG-13 rating. I am sure that one barely squeeked by. If you want to know the bottom line, it's that the paparazzi really suck. They always have, and will continue to be the bottom feeders that they always have been. Even this late in life, once in a while I run across a few gems that I had missed before. This one brings joy to my heart. Highly recommended. Kitty tested, kitty approved. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

I agree that the 2002 version of the musical Chicago was outstanding. I think I still have it on DVD in my archives. |

I understand that the internet was originally purposed to share cat pictures. I also understand that it is now totally out of control. And I suspect that the interconnectivity of devices will soon be used in an attack on the USA. (Not that I would actually know, but I do keep my ears on.) Been keeping myself interested for the last few weeks by watching "Inside The Factory". A British production about the manufacturing processes involved in making things we all know about, but never thought much about how they are actually made in mass quantity for our consumption. At the head is a guy named Gregg Wallace. He takes turns trying to be an idiot savant, clumbsy at best, a simple child, a total idiot, and lover of the sound of his own voice. Much of his erratic behavior is staged, or at least I hope it is. His childish laughter can be a bit disconcerting at times, but he is in charge. Then you have Cherry Healy, who does "behind the scenes" bits which, at the beginning of the series, are mostly on point to the subject being presented, but towards the end, seem to get a bit far field. But she presents a lot of interesting background information. And even if off topic, it is all very interesting. Lastly, you have the charming Ruth Goodman, who provides some very interesting information on the historical background on some things that we have all come to accept as the current status quo. She comes off as completely British, as all on this show do. But she has a lot of interesting information which she presents most charmingly. You have to understand that this show was made by the British. They do, only once or twice over the entire series, take a jab at us Yanks. But the amazing wealth of knowledge about the manufacturing processes presented in this series is just overwhelming and very well worth the time for those who are interested in such things. And the far flung, remote places where materials are obtained for some of those processes. I took particular interest in an apple cider manufacturing and bottling segment when I noticed that the bottling equipment on the line was made by Krones. A company that I had extensive dealings with many years ago before I left the electronics business, selling them electronic components and embedded computer boards which were used in their assembly line manufacturing here in the US. All in all, I can say that I highly recommend this series to all who are interested in industrial production. Extremely educational. I know it is not everybody's cuppa tea. The amazing scale that some of the production processes are scaled to is truly astounding. I mean, how many times does one see 22 tons of flour or sugar being offloaded from a huge tanker truck? And then in some cases, the minutest details of small amounts of special materials that are involved in getting to that massive scale. But I can truly say the the series is................. "Inside The Factory" Nice and thanks as never knew of that one. I hope to return the favour with more British engineering documentary TV: Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. Who else could make sewers inspirational? Sadly only seven episodes for the seven wonders. Quality over quantity. :^)
