Thanks kittyman, I was not aware at all that such a bracket existed. I can see where it would be very useful in certain situations such as you found out yourself. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Thanks kittyman, I was not aware at all that such a bracket existed. I can see where it would be very useful in certain situations such as you found out yourself. I had no idea either, until I did a lot of searching. I started out looking for some kind of remote panel that I could mount outside of the case somewhere within better reach. I was just finding mostly just the switches and LEDs with harnesses or some stupidly priced things for gamers or servers, and then I found that little gem. It is just perfect for me, and a very neat solution. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Yes, that could have come in handy and I should add it to my toolbox. I recently had to build my own HDD activity LEDs for my Corsair Air 740 cases. They don't come with any existing panel HDD activity LED and it seems that is going to be the trend in cases for the future. I don't think that is wise in my opinion. Nice rig ! My stuff is all low key atm. Want to build a nice dual CPU rig one day, I have that empty Caselabs Mercury that can take the larger server style format MB. |

Thanks, Todderbert! The CPU isn't cutting edge, but I'm adding some pretty good bits to the mix. Should serve me well for many years. Meow! "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Nice looking rig Mark. I see you have EVGA GPU's. Ive had good luck with EVGA GPU's with all my computers builds so far. You've given me the bug to buy a case , Power supply and stick my old I7 3770 mother board in it with my two 750 GPU's. I will take a look at the stats and see how much RAC your machine is doing. I'm betting I will be envious of it:) Edit- Just took a look. Wow 84K plus. Yep I'm envious:) [/quote] Old James |

He just upgraded hardware and didn't create a new computer ID. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Yes, the hardware is all new, but I cloned the SSD from my old daily driver and the new rig is continuing on under the old name. I still have the old rig complete. I will eventually load a new copy of Win7 on it, rename it, and it shall then get a new ID and show up as a newly created computer. When I get around to it. For now, I still have enough things to complete and tweak on the new one to keep me busy for a while yet. Meow! "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Nice looking rig Mark. I see you have EVGA GPU's. Ive had good luck with EVGA GPU's with all my computers builds so far. Thanks, James. Yes, I have always bought EVGA GPUs. Nothing else. Might be a few bucks more, but I have been happy with them and trust them. EVGA is making some fine product these days. I have a couple of their PSUs now, and the new computer is also using some very good fans that they now sell as well. Still went with Asus on the mobo again though. I tend to stick with what has been good to me in the past. And as of this morning, the rig is up to 85.6k RAC. Meow!! Just goes to prove that buying new parts and a bit of knowledge goes a long way. A working m/c in just a few weeks :-)) And I am having great fun with it. Still poking at the bits in the bios and such. I had kinda forgotten how much I liked this challenge. Just like the good ol' days.....LOL. Meow! Just spent the last hour or more tweaking up my RAM timings. And these number only mean something to those who have played with them. They were...... 3200Mhz @ 14/14/14/34/48/14/7/570trfc Now at..... 3333Mhz @ 14/14/14/28/42/14/7/390trfc A video processing benchmark I am using went from 29 seconds down to 21.5 seconds. And my boot time into Windows went from 39 seconds down to 34 seconds. And all this at 1.36 volts. So, my RAM is mostly tweaked to perfection. Meowmeowemeow! It takes 34 seconds to boot into Windows? I thought you replaced your boot drive with a SSD? Do you have FastBoot enabled in the BIOS? I get into Windows7 in about 10 seconds from restart. Was that from a cold boot/power on button or restart? You can disable the logo splash screen in the BOOT menu options. You can also change the length of time the POST shows. I would think you should get to Windows with a SSD much faster now. Those RAM timings look pretty decent. I probably would quit tweaking and use the system for a while. Did you benchmark the system with SIV before and after to note the differences? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Well, Keith, it depends on your point of reference. I can tell you this is much faster than I was used to with my Xeon processor system and the same SSD. The boot time I am using as a reference is the boot time reported by WiseCare365, which gives a popup at each boot saying what the boot time was. This is well into everything being loaded and running in Windows. I could quote a faster time from when I turn the rig on until the Windows logo appears and it says 'starting Windows'. Or from turn on to when the desktop first appears. So it is not so slow as you may think, and I am very pleased with it. It should get even faster when the M.2 drive I have on order is installed and replaces the current SSD. I do believe I have the fast boot options enabled in the bios, and I probably could cut something back there to shave a few more seconds off. What is important to note is the 5 second reduction in my current point of reference simply by tweaking my RAM timings and nothing else. I did not benchmark in SIV, but I was using the image editing benchmark in RealBench to do a rough test when working with the RAM settings. That time went from 29 seconds down to 21.5 seconds when run after everything was loaded, settled down, and Seti was put on snooze during the tests. I don't think I have much blood left on the table with the RAM settings now. Very little more to be gained there, I believe. Yes, I usually count time to load Windows is from turn-on to Windows Desktop fully populated and settled. You won't find much/if any difference in boot times from moving from SSD to M.2 NVMe drive. Same physical chips used. Only difference is how fast data can be pushed across the bus and that only comes into play with synthetic benchmarks or moving a movie file around disks. I didn't see much improvement from moving from my boot SSD to a boot M.2 NVMe drive. I only really ordered the M.2 drive because my new motherboard offered it and I had no prior experience with the new tech and I was curious. If I had the choice again, I would skip the M.2 drive and just get a bigger SSD drive for the cost of the M.2 drive. My $0.02.
