I propose that our politics forum only be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays. And for anyone with "--" as a post several hundred in a row, only open Tuesdays. ;) Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

If this were to happen then the public displays of OCD would not occur, how sad, very very sad. |

Careful there non-sarge, you're showing your full support for socialist/marxist/communist/stalinist/dictator/police-state form of government. What, the types that rewrite history? Isn't that your M.O.? I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Mr. Chairman, I propose an amendment, to have politics open to posts only after your BAC is above .50 |

Mr. Chairman, I propose an amendment, to have politics open to posts only after your BAC is above .50 <opens thread> ... <opens another thread> ... <opens another thread> ... <starts saying very questionable things in each thread> ... <stops typing coherently> #resist |

Mr. Chairman, I propose an amendment, to have politics open to posts only after your BAC is above .50 It seems to be what happens here, except perhaps about opening threads, more like float by open threads. |

Naw he meant 0.50 BAC, as in 1/2 . The general scenario is one where a thread is started by a questionable poster with a questionable title. Do your best Frump imitation by saying Stupid $hit in said thread. Sit back and watch the fireworks while laughing and mumbling to oneself. Repeat as needed. I can think of at least one bad hombre who has it down pat. |

Sigh.... if only their numbers totaled "one". There are two viable responses to people who appear to be only posting in order to set fire to powder kegs. Option one is to respond calmly and rationally. Point out fallacies and refrain from name calling. I'll admit that sometimes, this is difficult to do. Option two is to not respond at all. We all know the worst offenders... those who seem to post for the pure joy of upsetting others. We have it within us, as a community, to strip these people of power by ignoring them. Few things would upset them more. I'll admit that sometimes, this is even harder to do than Option One. |

I think there may be a lot of people who lurk and feel uncomfortable to post in Politics because they feel it's a dysfunctional "club" that isn't very friendly. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I think you're wrong about the number of lurkers in Politics. I suspect there being maybe 30 regulars, and a very small number of occasional lurkers. To be honest I find the Cafe to be much more dysfunctional, and representative of society at large. The cliques in the Cafe are really pronounced, whereas in Politics there are maybe 2 or 3 sides on any issue. A lot of people just aren't interested in Politics. |

Tuesdays & Wednesdays is fine but we have to have fair play. So I suggest an addition. The funny page aka The Café only open from 10:00 - 16:00 GMT Sundays only :-) |

Sigh.... if only their numbers totaled "one". Option 3: Place them into your ignore list. ;-) Works for me, for those who havn't the intelligence worth replying to. :-D Cheers. |

Sigh.... if only their numbers totaled "one". Option 2 would be far easier if DA would fix the ignore function to use the same code to hide as banish and completely hide the person being ignored. No long every other post blank space, with a sucker me in link, only the informative posts left so that adult discussion can continue without the adults even aware the two year olds are throwing temper tantrums. Now if he could take that fix ever farther and like Ad Block allow you to subscribe to a list of sites, er user numbers to block. Then we could have a left wing nut block list, a right wing nut block list, an all wing nut block list, etc. Know it isn't going to happen unless Fred demands it because the mods get tired. |

Gary you don't what much . Turning Seti into a nanny site is a bit to far , the blocking that is available is more than enough if we are adults . When you block someone you don't see the posts unless you wish to and as far as I'm concerned if you then get offended by what is posted then it's your own fault for looking at the post . You block a person for a reason so if you then chose to look at a post from that person well bad luck . If any thing is to be done then I would suggest the politics Thread be move to a Adult section that warns people that you may be offended by some of the material posted and ask people if they are 18 and over and by putting your age and birth date into your answer you are then accepting the warning and are allowed to enter the thread if you are over 18 . Simular to threads set up by teams with the difference of allowing everyone to see the thread but it displays a warning page and asks the above question before allowing you to enter it . I would add that if you then complain about any post well bad luck you where warned before you enter it . This will allow the Mod's to worry about the other threads and only bother with extreme complains made in the Politics thread that would warrant a banning from the project It would be the easiest thing possibly to implement and would not need to much coding as some off it is already there but will only need a tweak and the addition of 1 extra page to be displayed before you enter the thread |

I agree Gary. Being able to block both Username. and Thread Title, would be a boon to the User experience on the Seti Boards. Maybe the same could be achieved through a browser add-on specific to the Seti Forums. Simply limiting the Username, and Thread Title, to say 16 and 32 characters would go a long way to minimizing abuse of the Forum format. |
