I have been 'pre diabetic' for many years now. I have a doctor's visit scheduled for next Wednesday. This might be the last 'pre' diagnosis I shall get. I have too many warning signs. Incredible pain in my toes from time to time. Lack of energy. Spurts and lags in appetite. Uncontrollable thirst. Lack of concentration and memory that just flat out fails me. We shall see how I am doing on the 1st of the month. Meoworried. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

I have too many warning signs. Over-consumption of alcohol is a well known main factor to pain in the toes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gout |

I have too many warning signs. So is the lack of circulation associated with diabetes. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

I have too many warning signs. That's true. |

I would say most of that list could be put down to alcohol at times. I would be honest with the doctor and say the amount you drink each weekend, so that he doesn't mis-diagnose you and give you inappropriate drugs which could do harm. I am very frank with my doctor. And 'he' is a 'she'. I am very comfortable with her, so there is nothing I hold back. She is aware of my consuming habits. My GF has diabetes 2. A couple of weeks ago she got a small wound in her foot. Now she goes to the clinic twice a week to a check and giving her new bandage. She's scared shitless. Her father had the same problem. Started with a small wound in his toe. Resulted with an amputation of the foot. Later he had his leg amputated beyond the knee. Then an amputation above his knee. Then the same with his other leg... |

My GF has diabetes 2. And that is exactly why I get fearful when I have pain in my toes for no reason. And why I am going to see my doctor to discuss it. If, in fact, my 'pre diabetic' condition has progressed, I shall have to undertake some things to try to change it. Of course, it could simply be the aches and pains of old age setting in. Mark, hopefully you will be able to defer the progression onto having to take tablets or "stick a needle in" by careful control of your diet. I've managed to do so for about fifteen years, unlike my younger brother who didn't do what the quack said and went from control by diet to injecting three times a day in less than twelve months because "he knew best". I have lived with diabetic neuropathy for over 10 years now. It's not fun. Reduce the alcohol and get exercise. I had managed to keep my blood sugar down with just diet and exercise. Starting about a year ago, it's not working and I have had to start taking medication to keep it down now. Living healthy is a better choice. |

Mark, many of the meds for diabetes say do not drink alcohol while taking. Some mean it. As in if you consume as you do, if you wake up it will be in the ICU. Be ready for a sober life. |

Not ready yet. Life might take me from this planet before I am able to come to terms with it. Another man who may have passed before his time. I would not be the first one. I was "pre-diabetic" for many years based maining on my blood sugar levels. I have been treated now for about 6 years as having type 2 diabetes and again the major symptom has been high blood sugar. I really think what they call it should be broken up into at least three separate diseases. I hate cook book medicine where a diagnosis is based on some numbers that come back from a blood test without any visual or physical back up symptoms. Isn't it possible that some of us can have higher than "normal" levels of blood sugar without being diabetic. But once you are listed in the system as having this disease there is nothing you can do to refute it unless you want to risk loosing the rest of your medicare benefits. The site below is a place where you can help fund diabetes research for free. All you have to do is visit the site and click on the button. The ads pay for the research. Click to Support Diabetes Research There are other charities there that can be supported the same way. After you've clicked for Diabetes Research, click on the menu items along the top of the page. Clicking all of them should only take about 30-60 seconds if you have a good Internet connection. If you shop on the site you'll be providing even more support, and they have some pretty nice stuff. Think about it when you're looking for a gift, or even something for yourself. I'm not affiliated with the site at all. I just want to make people aware that it exists. ~Sue~ |

Well, it appears that no one is interested in this subject, so I'm going to ask the moderators to shut it down. ~Sue~ |
