I recently re-enabled work units on my machine after a month-long transcoding fest. My problem is the units say "Running" but stay at 0.000%. Every few minutes it will switch to a new work unit and try that with the same result. So.. what? Thanks! EDIT: After a while the work units say "Postponed: Cuda initialisation failure, temporary exit". EDIT2: Based on the above info, I reinstalled the CUDA toolkit and that has fixed my problem. |

What's the guidance about upgrading nVidia drivers? I too was kit woth all WUs being postponed but had to install the older driver from the CUDA toolkit. Is SETI@Home that sensitive? How to we know when it's save to use a later driver? |

Two things to consider before updating an nVidia driver on a computer being used for computing. First, does the update contain the components needed for the computation you are doing. For example, Microsoft driver updates frequently do not have the CUDA and OpenCL support needed by SETI, so don't use their updates. Second, and this is related to the above, will the updated driver provide a service or functionality required by the computation you are doing? Finally, in recent years many of the nVidia updates have been to provide functionality needed by selected games, and have very little to do with the computational functionality. Well, I use my computer for both crunching when not in use and gaming so having updated drivers are good. I nVer (see what I did there?) use the MSFT drivers. So in this latest driver there was a hotfix driver released after the latest wide distribution which fixed whatever the problem was. |
