I will admit, I run my Seti at Home on auto pilot a lot. Once upon a time I was processing a lot CUDA 50's (or whatever) in my NVidia GPU. Now I am seeing nothing but "Open_Nividia_Sog" or something like that. It is clear that some kind of automatic updating of the application(s) happened while I as busy elsewhere. Could someone catch me up? Explain why Sog, not Cuda is the latest/greatest? Thanks, Tom Miller A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

The SoG app is much faster on the current BLC tasks for the most part. The servers send you the appropriate app based on which app has the largest APR rate for your systems. That has been the SoG app for about half a year now. This is the case if you are running stock apps. You have a choice of which app you want to run if you run an Anonymous platform like the Lunatics apps. If you want to run CUDA work again you can either choose to run the Lunatics apps and select CUDA50 or install a Linux platform and run the special Linux CUDA app developed by Petri. His CUDA app absolutely blows any other app out of the water with its processing rate. Tasks that take 30 minutes on the old CUDA50 app or 15 minutes on the SoG app are finished in 90 seconds with the special app. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

It is fast though :) Stephen . . P.S. Yes the one word answer to the question "Why SoG?" is GBT. Cuda50 does not cope very well with Greenbank WUs and performance is slow. SoG is designed to overcome this and Raistmer has done a bang up job, so good it has become the stock app of choice. It runs Guppis much faster on most modern rigs. My GT730 was still doing about 20% better than SoG r3557 on Arecibo tasks but could not come close when crunching Guppis. But Petri's Special app is briliant when you see the numbers, I have seen rigs running it on GTX750ti GPUs that normal take about 12 to 15 mins to crunch guppis and now take about 6 to 9 mins. At the moment the main version is one done by TBar with guidance from Petri (who did the major development). But as Keith mentioned it is only running under Linux so far. Jason is trying to resolve some issues so it can be implemented on Windows platforms but nothing to date. For this reaon when I build a new rig it will be running Linux :) I just have to learn how ... . . One thing that should probably be mentioned about the Special App (Cuda60) is that it was not written to support older GPUs, it requires a card with Compute Capabilty of 3.2 or higher and with at least 2 compute units. So many of the older units out there could not run it which is one stumbling block on getting into main. But for everyone else ... :) Stephen . |

A few other lesser problems to iron out over time. My own input is minimal at the moment, mostly due to a spate of home things to deal with, and 40C temps. Will get there eventually. I just am in awe of the app because I have been paired with Petri as my wingman for over a dozen or so BLC and Arecibo tasks lately. I'm feeling pretty good with my 9-12 minute BLC tasks, two up on my 1070's and 4-6 minutes with the Arecibo tasks two up. And Petri is posting 97 seconds to completion on the Arecibo tasks. Kinda humbling in fact. I'm trying to figure out what spare parts I have on the shelf to build a Linux cruncher. Think I just need memory and a sufficient power supply. Any news from the Linux Cuda 6 special application ? I would like to test it on a GTX 780 and a GTX 1060 under Fedora 24 but for now it is unavailable there In the mean time, should I use nVidia_OpenCL_r3567 or should I prefer the stock application ? By the way, I was missing a place to find the last optimized application, as there was on the previous seti website. Could it be possible to highlight this information somewhere ? So here is my question : under Windows 10, is Lunatics 0.45 beta 6 still the fastest one, either with nvidia and amd gpu ? I am asking that because more recent stock application are available. Many thanks |

The Lunatics Beta-06 will have the fastest CPU applications but is behind the stock GPU applications now. Richard hasn't gotten around to updating the Lunatics installer to a new general release incorporating the stock GPU apps or a newer beta. You can still use the last beta and manually install the latest GPU apps from either Raistmer's or Mike's download sites. A little bit of editing the app_info.xml with some copy and paste will get the newer apps running.
