Now you're ridiculous Igor.
Crimea has belonged to many countries over the years. Russia is one of them.
Crimea remind me of Åland that now is an autonomous part of Finland.
Despite they all speak Swedish and a will to be part of Sweden.
The League of Nations said no to that.
Today the United Nations say that Crimea is not Russian.
Blin!
Perhaps Finland should claim Karelia back and Germany claim Kaliningrad/Königsberg back.
And Sweden claim all of Finland back and also perhaps Ingria/Ingermanland where St Petersburg is now, hometown of Putin, back.
Won't work though because Sweden didn't relocated it's citizens to these regions as much as Russia has done invading places like Crimea.

Sigh...
https://twitter.com/JuliaDavisNews/status/1092091235874103298
Russian propaganda mill has been busy churning out fake narratives that Ukrainian land is actually Russian & that Ukrainians would be more than happy to be occupied/annexed/colonized by #Russia. U.S. withdrawal from the INF treaty provided another pretext.
Top Kremlin propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov says he is certain that — in a hypothetical race between Putin and Poroshenko — 9 out of 10 Ukrainians would vote for Putin as the next President of #Ukraine.

Then sigh again...

#Russia's state TV showcases advanced weapons systems, including the Sarmat missile, designed to hit targets inside the US using the South Pole route. The tagline: "From these weapons, there is no salvation."
[Curiously, this tagline was omitted from the transcript of the show.]

Alas Ukraine:(
Newly uncovered evidence going back to 2015 suggests that the Ukrainian white nationalist Azov movement has been systematically co-opting American right-wing extremists to advance the former's own international agenda.
https://www.unian.info/politics/10448706-defend-the-white-race-american-extremists-being-co-opted-by-ukraine-s-far-right-bellingcat.html
Bellingcat has confirmed that in January 2016, Azov, via its online podcast, was in contact with the late Andrew Oneschuk, an imminent member of the violent American neo-Nazi organization Atomwaffen Division. On Azov's podcast, Oneschuk discussed issues facing Americans that wanted to join Azov, and expressed interest in learning methods of attracting youth to nationalism in America.

Well if not Ukraine does something to stop this BS they can kiss the EU goodbye that they eagerly want to join!

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has recently seperated from the Russian Orthodox Church and that's maybe why now Bishop Victor (Kotsaba) of Baryshevka speak out.
I have no doubt that in Ukraine there are still oppressions of religous believes. Sort of a legacy from the Soviet times.
But I don't really understand why the Ukrainian church adress European countries and asking for help since most of us are very secularized.
But religous believes are among human rights and even declared so in most democratic nations in their constitutions.
Even Russian constitution state that:)

BBC Ukraine: The largest number of patients with measles last year was in Ukraine, with the total number of patients with measles in the country higher than in the rest of the European region.
The number of measles patients in Europe in 2018 reached over 82,000 people, and most of them in Ukraine (over 53,000 patients).

Dear Igor,

With all the problem in the World and many, many Countries worse than Ukraine.

Why does "a sysadmin from Almaty, Kazakhstan" have a fixation with Ukraine. A Country that doesn't threaten Kazakhstan.

Dear moomin,

You started this thread (Ukraine/Crimea) because Putin/Russia is a threat to Ukraine, your Country and much of Europe. Putin's recent attempt to stop a Western Free Press from publishing news detrimental to his ambitions is just another example of why Putin/Russia is a threat.

A non-Russian poster from Kazakhstan constantly denying these truths makes one wonder why.

That is the basis of my question.

Igor, your answer?

Ukrainian media: Belarus sells Ukrainian coal to Ukraine.
In 2018, Belarus exported to Ukraine coal for 50.36 million dollars, which is 798 times more than in 2017. But there is no good deposits of coal in Belarus.

Well, you simply don't understand reality of the ex-USSR countries. I live in Kazakhstan but I have not any Kazakh ethnical roots, I have Russian and Ukrainian roots. And I grew up in the united country, when the Ukraine and Russia was not foreign countries in Kazakhstan.
Also, it's interesting for me, to show some Western persons a some sides of Ukrainian reality, some facts which a Western media don't like to show. And I hope the Eastern Ukraine will get Russian language as the second official language and some federative structure in Ukraine.

P.S. BTW, Kazakhstan don't see any threat from Russia. Because our media don't create fantom of such threat and our politicians don't want to join NATO.

I did feel that was the reason for your Pro-Putin/Anti-Ukraine posts and just wanted confirmation.

Thank you.

Do you really think that a "not anti-Putin" is synonym of "pro-Putin"? If somebody want two official language and federal structure for Ukraine - so he is anti-Ukrainian? And better way for peace in Ukraine - it's prolongation of war against separatists?
LOL. That's widespread example of primitive thinking.

It's a big problem of Western civilization's people, they say about pluralism and freedom of expression but at the same time they are sure that only one (their) point of view about the situation in the world is true.

You mean like Ukraine should be Ukraine Federation like Spain, Belgium, Switzerland that also have several official languages?
That Ukraine would then have 3 parts, the Western speaking Ukrainian, and Donbass and Crimea speaking Russian?
But Donbass and Crimea want to belong to the Russian Federation...
And Spain has also problem with seperatist movements now and then...

A discussion about the Ukrainian languguages between some from Eastern and Western Ukraine and Crimea.

Some have problems with that and others don't.
The status of Ukrainian has been an issue for a very long time.
Maybe Surzhyk should be declared an official language:)

Ukraine will not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest-2019
All three finalists of the National Selection refused to participate in the Eurovision Contest.

Also, it's interesting and shows Ukrainian reality - "the National Selection-2019 revealed and attracted the attention of our society to the systemic problem of the music industry in Ukraine: the connections of artists from the show business in the territory of the aggressor state, which are still very close at the 5th year of the military conflict."

Anna Korsun chosed to pull out after political pressure and doesn't want to be part off any propaganda.
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-47394371
Among other things, it would have prevented her from performing in Russia in the run-up to Eurovision. The singer was happy to scrap her concert plans, but argued that other clauses would have made her a mouthpiece for propaganda.
"I am a musician, rather than a tool of the the political stage," she wrote in a statement announcing her withdrawal.

Ironically, the row could hand Russia victory in this year's contest, which takes place in Tel Aviv in May.
The country will be represented by homegrown superstar Sergey Lazarev, who took third place at Eurovision 2016, in a shock defeat to... Ukraine.
"Losing was a very bitter pill to swallow for the Russians," recalls Dr Jordan. "But losing to Ukraine was even more unacceptable.
"They're desperate to win and I think they're out for revenge. So my money's on Russia, without even hearing the song."
