Barleycorn is also the measure used in UK shoe sizes. The most sensible shoe sizing system in the world. |

Barleycorn is also the measure used in UK shoe sizes. The most sensible shoe sizing system in the world. Awfully big feet if you ask me. Apparently British and Irish shoe sizes differ from one another by the distance of a barleycorn. Not a language issue though:) But English grammer can be an issue. "John is taller than me" and "John is taller than I" It's funny because in Swedish we have exactly the same grammatical "problem". "John är längre än mig" and "John är längre än jag" |

But English grammer can be an issue. Oops. Grammar that is. Social media has a tendancy to ignore spelling rules. Even here in this fora:) |

OMG! My local team Sutton United has just beaten Leeds 1-0 to go through to the FA Cup 5th round!!! Now I'm getting confused... Is there a difference between American Football and Football in the rest of the world? Well. A British football looks very different to an American football. |

Haven't you noticed that American Football isn't played with the foot. Not all the time, but of course there are kickoffs and punts to put the ball into play. Kinda the opposite of soccer......... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

English football is Soccer If that's the case please tell me why the "local" team is called Ipswich Town FOOTBALL Club not Soccer club ?? I absolutly hate the game ( Rugby ain't that much better either ) but honestly can't think of a team that call themselfs a "soccer club" . Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

English football is Soccer "Soccer" was a term used by the upper class whereas the working and middle class preferred the word "football"; as the upper class lost influence in British society from the late 1970s on, "football" supplanted "soccer" as the accepted word, possibly as a byproduct of class warfare :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_association_football#The_reaction_against_soccer |
