There is in the UK and you can be prosecuted, but not I believe in the USA unless it leads to or incites violence.

'Hate Speech' is a pejorative term in the USA.

In order to control and oppress those to its will. There are many, mostly on The Left of the Political Spectrum in the USA. Who wish, to use the UK example. Prosecute only one side's Racist, Sexist, etc., 'Hate Speech'.

It is apparent that those who believe in Acceptable Bigotry. Be it - KKK, Nazi, Radical Left, et al. Should be shunned by all those who understand this:

A belief in a Superior Controlling Authority, controlling our speech. Will always lead, and has always led, to the worst crimes ever committed against The People.

This is the fundamental difference between the Libertarian/Classical Liberal view on Freedom of Speech (Founders of the USA, for instance) and the more Authoritarian view on Freedom of Speech (much of Europe, for instance).

Remember, Freedom of Speech is fairly meaningless without the Freedom to be Offensive with said Speech.

A personal, individual decision to refrain from being insulting towards others in some circumstances (freedom) is vastly different from removing that decision from individuals and forcing it on everyone through the Police Power of the Government by Law (slavery).
