Working, and so far working well! Thank you. Now do I have to add a CPU section to the app_info to get CPU tasks? |

Now do I have to add a CPU section to the app_info to get CPU tasks? Yes. If you run Anonymous Platform (by using app_info.xml) you have to specify each application that you want to use. 1 for MB (MutiBeam v8) work, and 1 for AP (AstroPulse v7) work on GPUs, and the same for CPUs- 1 for MB (MutiBeam v8) work, and 1 for AP (AstroPulse v7) work Grant Darwin NT |

It looks like that my computer decided to receive only 8.20 units for its 780ti gpu cards(2) instead of the faster 8.22 ones. I wonder what caused this. Thanks |

8.20 vs 8.22 is dependent on what applications you installed. Your system say anonymous so can I assume you used a lunatics installer? It might have been an older installer with the 8.20 as opposed to the later 8.22 application. (personally I find the 8.20 faster than the 8.22 but that's me. If the numbering system bothers you, you can just change it from 8.20 to 8.22 in the app_info section) Anyway, you can always download the 8.22 application and directly install in into your system and thereby obtain the latest version of the application. |

changing the name in app_info will not change the application. It will still be the 8.20 application. This will only rename it to 8.22 If you are ok with that then, Click start button, to computer Once you click computer, click on local disk, then open local disk, click programdata (this maybe hidden if you have not previously unhidden these files) If you see programdata, click that , click BOINC, click projects, click setiathome.berkeley.edu. Find app_info.xml, right click and open with notepad That will allow you to edit the app_info.xml Find all 8.20 and change it to 8.22. Again, this will only change the name reported to the server, it will NOT change the actual application processing the work unit. When you get done, just save as app_info.xml and make sure the type is all files *.* and not .text or You can download the last Lunatics installer here http://mikesworld.eu/download.html you want Lunatics Win64 0.45 Beta 6 I'm not sure but I think it has 8.22 in it. Been a while since I looked Good luck |

The latest installer has the 8.20 app, the 8.22 app came out later (to address some problem), but I have no problems running the older app. BTW, I've never seen any speed difference between those 2 apps and I have run both, but you can download the later app and use the aimerge.cmd to update. Cheers. |

I am guessing you need to have the app files in the project directory but is the command interactive or do you need to use command line switches? Stephen ? ? |

Of cause make sure that you have BOINC shut down when you down it and if I've missed something out I'm sure that someone will correct it. ;-) Cheers. |

The aimerge command reads any .aistub files and merges them automatically into the app_info.xml file. The tool was meant to automate generating the app_jnfo file and also eliminate hand editing of the app_info and possibly dumping all your work if you messed up the edit. Each of the individual app zips usually contained an .aistub file that inserts the proper configuration for the app into app_info. You can edit the .aistub files with Notepad and not dump any work. One way to pare down the app_info file from 43K to 5K in size by eliminating all the superfluous CUDA and plan class entries. . . Call me cynical but that sounds too simple :) Stephen :) |

So does that mean there must be ONLY one aistub file in the folder? Or does each aistub only have the appropriate info for the app it accompanies so that all aistub info gets merged into the app_info.xml. I will do some reading ... . . OK, looked at the aistub files and it is the latter case, thanks for the tip guys. Stephen :) |

It really is that simple. Put the r3584 executable along with the .aistub file from the zip into the Seti folder and run aimerge. Done deal. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

All the .aistub files in the folder will get merged into the app_info. That is how the app_info can get rather big. Just open up one of the .aistub files with Notepad and look at its contents. They are just text files. I would just grab the .aistub files from the latest apps you want to run and put them into the project folder. Delete all the older .aistub files from the older deprecated apps that you don't want to run or move them into another folder so that the aimerge command just works with the files and apps you are interested in. Or does each aistub only have the appropriate info for the app it accompanies so that all aistub info gets merged into the app_info.xml If I remember correctly, the original .aistub file from the original Lunatics installer had all the apps and plan classes listed. So it produced an app_info for everything from CUDA23 to CUDA50 along with sections for 32 bit x86 to 64 bit x86 and everything in between. You should really do some weeding of the .aistub files to limit the size of the app_info. The later installers generate a pretty efficient app_info just from the selections made in the installer. But there still can be some superfluous entries that can be trimmed down or out. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

The latest installer has the 8.20 app, the 8.22 app came out later (to address some problem), but I have no problems running the older app. It's just a Windows batch file contained in the original Lunatics installer (.cmd) that looks for aistub files and appends them to the app_info.xml. No interaction, no options. |

I have downloaded from the "lunatics" the 8.22 and Astropulse app, but in the last 14 hours all I got was one Astropulse wu. My manager tells me that there are no wu's available for me, yet at the SETI site there seems to be over 500,000 ready to send. Wonder what is going on? Thank you, Miklos PS: according to my manager there are about 4 dozen units on this computer waiting to crunch, but I do not see them and I think those disappeared when I downloaded the app from the lunatics yesterday. Very confused. |

First if you are using BOINC Manager and are in advanced mode, go to the tasks tab and make sure you have "Show All" selected not "Show Active". . . If you have and they still do not show then you may have made a small mistake in changing the app configuration and that is all it takes to trash all the WU's in your cache. Are you crunching on both CPU and GPU? If so are the WUs assigned to your CPU still there? That is what I would expect if you had ghosted all the WUs assigned to your GPU. . . Lastly, if you have ghosted those WUs there is a way to recover them by having the servers resend them to your host. There is a procedure but it is a little complicated and requires careful timing, and only recovers 20 at a time. Stephen :) |
