thanks verifies what i thought but for some reason even resetting and deleting all and redoing it still gave me the app version not found for 8.23 and thus the opencl_ati5_SoG_nocal 8.23 tasks got abandoned by boinc. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8166299 my computer id under errors u can see only those tasks are being abandonded and boinc in logs stated that no app version 8.23 SETI@home | [error] No app version found for app setiathome_v8 platform windows_intelx86 ver 823 class opencl_ati5_SoG_nocal; discarding 11ja09af.28756.90200.6.33.84_0 I did check cleint_state.xml and only app_version showing in there is a 8.22 not 8.23 and i think thats what boinc is saying when it finds no ver 823. is this something simple i can modify on my own or something u would have to check on? cheers man and keep up the good work |

Result status "abandoned" has nothing to do with app itself. App even wasn't ran at all. It's BOINC configuration issue. Try next steps: 1) set SETI project to "no new tasks" (NNT) mode. 2) complete all tasks 3) detach from SETI project. 4) after detaching browse to BOINC's projects directory 5) completely delete setiathome.berkeley.edu directory 6) attach to SETI project 7) don't do any modifications app_config.xml creation including. If 8.23 will be downloaded and lost again report back. This would mean BOINC configuration issues not client but server-side. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

I had him do steps 3) , 4), 5) and 6). Should have added 7) because I didn't know the contents of his app_config.xml |

I included the log so u can see everything it did download. also client_state.xml has no 823 app version at all only the 822 so again maybe that'll point generally to the issue. |

It's downloading setiathome_8.22_windows_intelx86__opencl_ati5_sah.exe It then downloads a WU, and starts to run it- no errors. It requests more work, which is allocated, then it tries to run v8.23 opencl_ati5_SoG_nocal and then it is all discarded- even though no download occurs. Then it downloads setiathome_8.22_windows_intelx86__opencl_ati5_SoG.exe end of posted log. Did the initial WU crunch successfully? The next time it asked for work, what happened? The rest of the log may be of some help. EDIT- 5) completely delete setiathome.berkeley.edu directory This was done without issues? Your AV programme or folder permissions didn't block the deletion of the folder & everything in it? Grant Darwin NT |

Since his SETI folder is deleted he's starting from no apps and the log shows his client is only receiving 8.22 applications. So the server isn't sending an 8.23 application but it's sending 8.23 work units. I'd hypothesize that the 4 million 8.23 successful WU's came from clients that received an 8.23 application at some earlier time but now the server is refusing to send out the 8.23 application but is still sending out 8.23 WU's to some clients. The error being received seems to be appropriate and this is a server side issue. |

It looks like a Server issue to me. I've been looking at the Applications list since the problem began and it still says 4 GigaFLOPS for both 8.23 Apps. Windows/x86 8.23 (opencl_ati5_SoG_cat132) 28 Dec 2016, 23:34:07 UTC 4 GigaFLOPS Windows/x86 8.23 (opencl_ati5_SoG_nocal) 28 Dec 2016, 23:34:07 UTC 4 GigaFLOPS Considering the non-SoG Apps say; Windows/x86 8.22 (opencl_ati5_cat132) 28 Dec 2016, 23:34:07 UTC 5,012 GigaFLOPS Windows/x86 8.22 (opencl_ati5_nocal) 28 Dec 2016, 23:34:07 UTC 10,259 GigaFLOPS It seems there is a problem distributing those two Apps. The new most popular Linux Apps are already above 40-90 and they were just released tonight. |

The log shows: 2017-01-05 9:10:33 PM | SETI@home | Starting task 11ja09ac.24962.21749.4.31.14_1 But it isn't one of the tasks that show errors. I think he missed a step: 2) complete all tasks The client_state would still show old tasks exist, but in fact would not it the directory was removed. The discarded tasks were not downloaded "as new" so they must have been pre-existing. |

So the server isn't sending an 8.23 application but it's sending 8.23 work units. WUs are WUs there are no CPU or GPU WUs until they are allocated to a system. Same with the version on the WU- it picks up whatever application it is allocated to. For some reason, his system is trying to run v8.23, although it doesn't actually have it. At the start of the log you can see where it requests work, finds it doesn't have an application to process it, downloads the application, then starts processing that WU. For some reason, the next batch of work it gets allocated (although not downloaded???) it tries to process with an application it doesn't have. After dumping all of those WUs, it then downloads another application (different from the first). Unfortuately that's where the log ends. Grant Darwin NT |

The log shows: I'm thinking after detaching from the project it probably would have been a good idea to uninstall BOINC, delete it's Data folders, re-install & re-attach. Although I guess that would result in a new Computer ID? As well as lose any stats etc. Maybe just deleting client_state.xml & client_state_prev.xml and anything in the Slots folder? I'm guessing if there were any trace of a app_info.xml file it wouldn't attempt to download the stock applications? Grant Darwin NT |

2017-01-05 9:10:31 PM | SETI@home | Started download of 11ja09ac.24962.21749.4.31.14 Yeah, the intial task was downloaded, and started to be processed. But then there were 13 tasks discarded - without being downloaded - because it tried to run them with an application it didn't have. The problem is No One has returned any work for the Two 8.23 Apps. The Server isn't sending it to Anyone. Something is certainly borked. In Beta Eric posted That's weird. It looks like plan_class_spec.xml was reverted to an earlier version while I was away...., probably in response to the Arm issues. Maybe it's affected the 8.22/8.23 application rollout as well. Yep, something strange for sure. This host is keeping the 8.23 tasks but they aren't being worked, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8001648&offset=740 The In Progress is pretty high as well. I wonder how many others there are like that. Also, all I'm receiving is Arecibo tasks and resent BLCs, it would appear the BLCs aren't being split. RTS is down too. I found a few more accumulating a nice stash of non-working 8.23s. In each case the In progress tasks were in the thousands. It has to be putting a strain on the Server. So, how much can she take? Is she about to blow??? |

I'm seeing the same behaviour - all 8.23 tasks for ati5_SoG.... are being rejected because there's no matching app. This is probably not relevant, but could the absence of the app needed to handle these tasks have anything to do with the presence of the 8.22 nvidia_SoG app that was incorrectly downloaded to ATI machines (and which I have)? I don't think it should, and I don't think deleting this app would halp, but I'm no expert. Alternatively, when Eric Korpela did this: Another typo in another manually edited script copied the wrong base app_version into the ati5_SoG app_versions. I've rereleased them at 8.23 and cancelled the results for the bad app_versions (8.22 opencl_ati5_SoG_nocal and opencl_ati5_SoG_cat132). is it possible that no new 8.23 app was created to match the tasks' version number change? It may have been done quickly in the holiday period. Graham Thomas |

Interesting about that computer TBar linked with 5072 in progress tasks SETI@home v8 8.22 windows_intelx86 (opencl_ati_nocal) It looks like it's been acting up since Nov 18. |

Thanks, Raistmer. It may be that all it needs is for the filename of the app to be changed from 8.22 to 8.23 (but, as I said, I'm no expert and could be way off beam). Graham Thomas |

And now I can confirm server-side issue on own absolutely fresh stock install: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8177404 SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |
