About 3 o'clock this afternoon, I received a call on my cell phone from someone identifying herself as with a survey organization related to the Center for Disease Control. She told me the survey would last about 25 minutes, and I'd be given $10 for my participation. Bored, and not overly suspicious, I decided to go ahead(why not?). She said the questionnaire would be of a very personal nature. My college degree is in psychology, and I know how questions like this should sound, so I went through the whole thing with her, and she took my name and address, but after the fact, it left me wondering ... Well, I'll see if get the $10 check in the mail. The interviewer spoke the questions in a way that seemed legit to me, so I kept answering(scales of 0 -10, and yes/no). It's still kind of weird, now that I think more about it, that the CDC would contract a survey company and pay participants at random like this. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Sounds fishy to me......... I have always categorically refused to answer phone surveys regardless of the subject. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Sounds fishy to me......... Well, I participate in an occasional group who taste-tests new recipes for KFC, so I'm not against legit surveys. The supposed CDC survey I had today would have crossed the line for most people, but since the interviewer sounded on the level, and I wasn't providing anything more than my name and mailing address, I thought, "ok". I found this on the CDC website. There are other posts about surveys, if you're interested. This should get you started. Edit: That link is about a health care survey. I also saw one about a vaccination survey. Just have a look around their site.) ~Sue~ |

Well, much to my surprise, I actually received the promised $10 check in the mail today for participating in the survey. :~) What? You get money for participating in a survey? Do you also get money for a screening? I have been selected to SCREESCO (Screening of Swedish Colons) Meaning that they want me send a FIT, Fecal Immunochemical Test. Actually two tests with stool samples. No participating money here. But the postage with the samples from me is however paid for:) |

I got a generic-looking letter from the Arbitron radio rating company. (At least, I think that's who it was. It was a long time ago.) It was something that looked like junk mail and I'm sure a lot of other people who might have received the same mailing probably threw it away without opening it. But I opened mine and, surprise, there were two actual, real dollar bills inside and a letter asking me to participate in whatever it was. There was also a promise to send more money when they received my competed response. And I did receive more money, as promised. I still wonder to this day how many dollar bills were thrown out as unopened junk mail. ~Sue~ |
