Message 1834411 - Posted: 6 Dec 2016, 3:04:47 UTC

Yesterday my 2 new ASUS DUAL-GTX1060-O3G's arrived here, but it was too hot here by then to do anything with them.

By late morning today I had all the dust bunnies blown out of 4 PC's and 5 GPU's as well as swapping 7 GPU's around between those PC's.

My main rig (3570K powered) received the new 1060's while my 2nd rig (2500K @ 3.4GHz powered) gave up its 2 GTX 550 Ti's to make way for the main rig's old GTX 660's.

So far the 1060's look to be doing Guppies in half the time of the 660's and Arecibo work in 60% of the time (while using less power) so both rigs should show healthy improvements soon.

Another bonus of some upgrades is saving power.

The 2500K's case with the 550Ti's in it pulled 330W at the wall and with the 660's now in it it's now only pulling 315W.

The 3570K's case went from pulling 290W from the wall with the 660's down to 245W with the 1060's.

I can certainly feel the cooler temps around my feet between them now.

Cheers.

Yea, I got a good deal on a 1070 on Black Friday.

Then a board and 980 hybrid on ebay, next a Case and other parts.

That 1070 was cheap, but it all adds up.

Will be nice though :D

I guess a lot of folks will be getting their upgrades for Christmas. The 1060s and 1070s look like really good value for a two or more generations upgrade.

Even tough your comand line values are little weird to me.

I'm just using the suggested command line from the SoG readme txt for mid range cards Mike, but if you can suggest better alternatives for the 1060's and 660's I'll give them a go. ;-)

Cheers.

Hi Wiggo,

I run a 1060 and a 1050ti card with the following command line:

-tt 1500 -sbs 1024 -period_iterations_num 4 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64

You could also experiment with the -hp and -high_perf -high_prec_timer commands but it could cause lag.
Also the -period_iterations_num can be adjusted.

Happy Crunching!

Everything can be adjusted.
Especially -tt 1500 seems to much for me but is host dependend.

I would suggest

-sbs 1024 -period_iterations_num 10 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64

If you don`t get screen lags you can decrease -period_iterations_num to 3 or 4.

I left off the -tt 1500 bit, but that noticeably cut around 1min 30secs off the 1060's already short Guppie times while at the same time cutting from the same amount of time from the 660's isn't quite so apparent though still an improvement.

Cheers.

After full 6 days my 3570K with the 1060's in it (instead of the 660's) has gone from a RAC of 20K up to 26K while the 2500K with the 660's in it (instead of the 550Ti's) has gone from 13.7K to 15.8K and overall from going down to 37K, since putting away the Athlon 630, to now going up past 43.5K with no sign of slowing down yet.

So from drawing 1000W during last winter here with 3 rigs and 6GPU's with a RAC of 47.5K I'm down to pulling 560W with 2 rigs and should pass that winter time RAC in about 4 days.

Cheers.

I ordered a couple of GTX1060 (3Gb variety). They're in transit at the moment.

I haven't been able to run anything in the last couple of days due to the heat (38 degrees C in Sydney today).

Aircon?

What's that?

I never had it when I lived down in Sydney and I'm certainly don't need it up here. :-D

Anyhow, my 3570K rig's RAC (with the 1060's) is now over 30K and the 2500K rig (now with the 660's) is now over 17.2K and my combined RAC is now over 48.2K and still going strong (mothballing my Athlon II rig has now been well nullified and my next power bill will be interesting).

BOINC Stats is also reporting that my daily returns are in the 52-53K range which sounds good to me. :-)

Cheers.

My RAC has now passed 51K.

It looks like another pair of 1060's will be at the top of my birthday present list for next year.

Cheers.

. . Not wanting to be short changed on Chrissy presents I have added a brace of 1060-6GB cards to the Pentium, but it is not achieving numbers anywhere near as good as yours. If you don't mind sharing I would like to try the settings you are running (SoG command line) just to see if it can get better results. I was hoping it would come a bit closer than it has to your results.

I'm using this,
