it's the first time i use win 10... dl and installed the win client 64 bit, logged in 3 Projects (seti, asteroids and progs) and now in the boincmanager are just two running Tasks. my Prozessor is AMD A6-7400K Radeon R5, 6 Compute Cores 2C+4G 3.50 GHz i think the pc could run 6 or 12 tasks at the same time. what i do have to change in the windows settings? (win 10 enterprise, vers. 1511) boinc and the projects settings should be fine, on my other pc (win8.1) it runs multiple tasks at the same time. http://altes-beckhaus.com - my home & job http://crunching-family.at - my team |

Your system is capable of running 2 tasks on the CPU and one (by default) on the GPU. In the past I have noticed that it takes a bit of time for the servers to "catch up" with a new computer, and very often it is the GPU that suffers at the outset. Others will no doubt come along and point you in the direction of any driver versions you need for your GPU - they can be somewhat fussy. boinc and the projects settings should be fine, on my other pc (win8.1) it runs multiple tasks at the same time. That depends, your other system doesn't have a usable GPU. So I would first check in the project preferences if Use ATI GPU is checked, and if not, start there. |

Thank you 4 trying to help! win 10 made some updates by itself. i changed the seti settings and the boincmanager shows 2 cpu (as before) and new 2 gpu Tasks. that don't solve the Problem. i still miss 10 active cpu Tasks. if someone likes to help maybe it's easyer to write in german per email. my adress is info@altes-beckhaus.com if my tasks are running fine, i will post the way to fix it here in english. http://altes-beckhaus.com - my home & job http://crunching-family.at - my team |

You have to understand how the compute cores work. These aren't individual cores that can run work, in the case of a GPU the compute cores all run one task at the same time. So you have 2 CPU cores, which are 2 individual compute cores. Then you have one GPU with 4 compute cores, but this GPU runs one task at a time and uses the 4 compute cores to do the calculations, it runs parts of the task in parallel. Which means that you can run 3 tasks at the same time. And yes, you can run multiple tasks on the GPU, but then you need to use an app_config.xml file and probably tell BOINC to use one CPU core less, in the end resulting in exactly the same 3 tasks maximum. BOINC Manager in the advanced view (in Simple view BOINC Manager->View->Advanced view) shows by default the active tasks only, the ones that are running. All tasks ready to run and suspended are 'hidden' so not to clutter the Tasks tab too much. Since everything in this tab is updated at real time, a lot of tasks their status being updated every second means that this can slow down the computations too much, as the updating is done by the CPU. You can check where the rest of the tasks are and what their status is by clicking the "Show all tasks" button on the left. This button shows the option you have, not the state it is in. It will change to "Show active tasks". |

So you have 2 CPU cores, which are 2 individual compute cores. should'nt 2 cores run 4 tasks? i don't understand this. everything was fine and understandable bevore boinc involved the graphikcards... i stop crunching with the new pc, the electric energie is to expensive for just 2 (or 3) tasks... thx 4 helping! http://altes-beckhaus.com - my home & job http://crunching-family.at - my team |

You have a single, two core CPU, with no hyper-threading possible. "Two cores" is the same as "two compute cores", and so that CPU will only run two two tasks. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-A6-Series%20A6-7400K.html When I was running a higher end AMD A10-7700 one of the issues I ran into was if the GPU was fully loaded, all 4 of my cpus were running at around 25% or less of their maximum possible cpu speed. Apparently the cpu has micro-code that does resource balancing or the single memory channel was bottle necking things. This was true across both a Win10 setup and a Win7 setup. The other thing I experienced was repeated Gpu crashes (under Win10) even when I used the "reduce the driver crashes" instructions for Seti. My understanding is after a gpu/driver crash you have to manually restart Bonic to get the gpu to be active again. It is entirely possible that you may get more total wu system production by slowing the gpu down. I am not sure how to slow the gpu down except to use the TThrottle temperature app and set the gpu temperature lower than it is averaging. AMD A6-7400K is not capable to run seti, and asteroids programs. It's a 2 core processor with only 1MB cache. Moreover, the graphic base frequency of AMD A6-7400K is just 756MHz which is not enough at all. Such programs require high cashes and graphic support. For better performance, you must upgrade your processor / machine with the one having higher graphics and cache support. I will recommend you core i7 -6785R (8mb cache and pro graphic 580). With these configurations you can easily run all your programs on win-10, and you will able to run more that 8 task at a time. |

Funny this, coming from a person who doesn't have any computers attached to his account. In any way, it's total hogwash what you write. The cache capability of the CPU has nothing to do with whether it's capable of running tasks here at this project, and it certainly doesn't require an i7 to run tasks here. Look at all the Raspberry Pis that do work, or the Android phones. Their CPUs aren't the highest-end Intel, while their on-the-CPU L2 cache doesn't even go above 128KB for the first to 512KB to the third generation. Most videocards that showed the graphics didn't go over 400MHz until just recently. So in your words, for all these years we ran the software no one was ever able to see the graphics/screen saver, because we lacked the graphical capability. Yeah right. |
