Now let's see, WWII, oh yes you Yanks sat on your arses while we were evacuating British colonials out of SE Asia and holding the Japs back until the Japs did Pearl Harbour, then your generals wanted to use us as cannon fodder to protect your troops (yeah nice allies). Wiggo that was a Churchill idea, Hitler was to be first. |

Yes Betreger, the Brits didn't cover themselves in any glory either by just up and abandoning their SE Asian colonists on short notice just to protect the motherland at that time (they wern't the only European countries with colonists in the area either), it was just lucky we here to fill in the gaps for them. We also learned about the Brits back in WW I when they were using us as cannon fodder too. Yeah we've had some nice allies in times of war, "Now here's the plan, we send our foreign elements in first,..". ;-) Cheers. |

For the record Wiggo. Australian WWII casualties were 39,700 while the US lost 407,300 service people bullying the Germans and being thugs to the Japanese. The US Navy alone lost nearly twice as many sailors as entire Australian armed forces, mostly in your 'neck of the woods'. We weren't there for a picnic. Don't disparage lives given in the cause of anyone's freedom. Source....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

As I said DG, get the blinkers off your head and take a good look at the big picture instead of focusing on just the "U.S. Glory" and you may start to understand the rest of us. That "Glory" cost far too many lives than was really necessary. :-( Cheers. |

Wiggo, I will not disagree with you. I am well aware of mistakes made by my leaders since WWII. I feel a lot of that ('adventurism'?) was due to fear of being dragged into another World War against our will as was the case in 1917 and again in 1941. The US was basically isolationist until the 2nd WW. I lost an uncle and nearly lost another in the South Pacific. Korea saw 3 of my cousins over the course of 3 years including Chosin. I was part of the mistake made in SE Asia in the 60s that claimed another 58,315 American lives(needlessly in my opinion), some of them my 'Brothers(and Sisters) in Arms'. We seem to go into these periods where we want to help the oppressed and charge in 'Guns Ablazing' to right wrongs then end up mired in unintended consequences. It's not that we as a people want to expand our territory or build an Empire, the common American just wants to help those under oppression, and then that somehow becomes perverted by circumstances, time and in some cases bad leadership. I think sometimes we do bully others, but the others are usually also bullies (Sadam comes to mind) and force is the only language they speak or understand. Don't paint the will of an entire people with so broad a brush. You didn't factor in population, per capita Australia had twice the casualty rate of the US.So a life from a larger country counts less than that of a smaller population? Explain that logic to their wives, mothers, children and parents. That's the same BS equivocation as Black Lives Matter, except when murdered by other blacks(Chicago). ALL LIVES MATTER Mr Knight. If you want to take that view of things then hear this. My fathers home town is Accrington, in East Lancashire, population ~45,000. In WW1 it was the smallest town in the UK to form a "Pals battalion", the 11th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. On the first day of the 'Battle for the Somme' July 1, 1916, that Battalion lost at least 584 of the 720 troops who took part were killed, wounded or missing. That all happened in the 20 minutes from 07:30 till 07:50. About 1 in 8 of the men in that age group. One day. One town. One hundred years on |

Guy, I don't think I said we should 'follow their leader', I don't think I said we should emulate them in any way. You pointed out some valid reasons *why* the things are the way they are, but NO of course I don't necessarily believe any of it is 'the right way'. As far as 'should we let it continue', JaundicedEye just had a decent post that both outlined my opinion on (non)interference and outlined the reasons why non-interference doesn't always work. I'd prefer to leave it(them) alone. But of course when you do that, bad things could happen that could ultimately drag us in to conflict. As such, I do not have a clear answer to what action we should or shouldn't take concerning them. All I would say is that we shouldn't be sooo quick to claim our superiority and take a hard line against them, without first examining all options- like peaceful resolution. #resist |

Beijing will 'take off the gloves', if Trump continues on Taiwan- China Daily "If Trump is determined to use this gambit in taking office, a period of fierce, damaging interactions will be unavoidable, as Beijing will have no choice but to take off the gloves," the English-language China Daily said. #resist |

Hmm, those Monday Morning blues... ...not this morning :-) â—¾Brexit: It was a "smart" decision by the UK â—¾UK-US trade deals: "We're gonna get something done very quickly" â—¾Angela Merkel: She made a "catastrophic mistake" by letting in a million migrants â—¾The EU: "It's basically a vehicle for Germany" and other countries will also leave because of anger over immigration â—¾Nato: It's "obsolete" but "very important to me" and other members should pay "their fair share" â—¾Iran nuclear deal: It's "one of the dumbest deals I have ever seen" â—¾Iraq war: It was "like throwing rocks into a beehive" Looks like Europe had better start stocking up on incontinence pants :-) Source |

Just in... Germany got "Tangoed" ...that's gonna hurt :-) Hmm, I recall Part 4 of the Europe series getting sent into cyberspace all because of "perceived attacks" on Germany... ...Will those that took that action send Trump into cyberspace? Hmmm, better hurry up then as you only have 72 hours to do so! |

Ah, been waiting for the crap to hit the fan over this for the past several years :-) DUE to the EU carbon emission regulations, the pen pushers here in the UK thought they were smart when they came up with the current excise duty for vehicles. Well, they were wrong It was ultra smart, so smart in fact that the treasury ended up losing "loadsa money" ...so to rectify their error, guess who has to fill the treasury coffers? |

There is something with the Arctic countries. «Why is not the Norwegian part included?» Putin’s former Chief of Staff, Sergey Ivanov, asked when shown the new map of the joint Norwegian-Russian Pasvik Nature Reserve. https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/ecology/2017/01/norway-not-invited-high-profile-opening-visitor-centre-bilateral-nature-reserve Walking over the map on the floor, Sergey Ivanov started to wonder. «Norway also has a part of this, yes?» he asked and pointed to the white-outed area of the map. |
