Replying to message 1832523 in PMO 103 The Server Status ... looks like the .xml output is still working correctly at the moment..No, it isn't - the SETI@home v8 database status numbers are still duplicates of the Astropulse numbers - as they have been all year, since the SETI@home v8 column was added (and it's time for the SETI@home v7 column to be removed). The duplication makes the Haveland Graphs - which are driven from the XML - useless. |

Replying to message 1832523 in PMO 103 How bizarre it is to see a production environment where bug reports don't get addressed, regression testing does not exist, and nothing seems to get more than basic functionality testing before getting rolled out. I can only hope the science itself is handled with more care ... |

I've found the place in the code where the problem happened - during the frantic introduction of SaH v8 for Breakthrough Listen this time last year, somebody copied and pasted a line, but missed changing $avalue to $bvalue afterwards. Unfortunately, the new version wasn't committed to the public code repository until five weeks ago, so external proofreaders couldn't help... I've emailed the relevant project people now. |

Replying to message 1832523 in PMO 103 Well by "working' I meant they didn't break anything new in that particular place. Also it looks like the Stderr output is now placed using preformatted tags. So it ends up with a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom on the page. I'm not sure if that is helpful for the times we need to view this information for issues and debugging. It also looks like the changes made to forum_reply.php haven't yet been applied to forum_edit.php SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

I'm not sure if that is helpful for the times we need to view this information for issues and debugging.Looking at other projects still using pre-Bootstrap style sheets, I think that stderr has always been formatted with <pre> tags: having monospaced fonts without line wrapping is certainly helpful. The scroll bar only appears for tasks which need it - as it should - but that does apply to many SETI tasks with over-wide text output. My only quibble is the shock to dark-adapted eyes caused by all that white background. |

It took me some time, but I did find another project I had with enough Stderr output to give a horizontal scroll bar. Previously it caused the page to have a scroll bar instead of a box. That is likely the difference I wasn't quite making a moment ago. For me the switch in contrast isn't so bad if I scroll slowly. With only the first 7 lines of the stderr displayed and I can scroll slow to give my eyes the time they need. However when I'm looking for information my reaction is to load the page and scroll down as soon as the page is there. Which does feel like someone flipping a light on in your face. I remember the classic forums. The colors werent very good either but i think everything new is bad in the first place. Especially every big change is bad. At least options would have been nice. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

The Forum colors can be adjusted easily in FireFox using the method from the other thread. It does seem better if you Invert the Brightness instead of Colors, that way Green is still Green, Orange still Orange, etc. The only strangeness is the Posting box & Stderr output box is black with white letters, but, the rest looks normal and nice. 1) Install Color That Site 2) Open the sidebar and select New Edit 3) Select Foreground colors and Check the Invert Brightness box 4) Select Settings and hit the Site choice 5) Do the same with the Background Colors. Well, I just went to change another machine and found the text colors have been changed from white to Yellow. That doesn't Invert very nicely. When I changed the Main machine the text colors were white and they Inverted to Black. Glad I changed my Main machine earlier, now it will stay with Light Grey Background and Black Text no matter what SETI does. |

I went with a slightly green backdrop with almost white text. Matches my mood perfectly. |

I've just received notification that the XML version of the SSP should be fixed now. And I'm seeing some twitches on the seti@home V8 Server Statistics already. Off to tell the webmaster the good news. |

Yet another dubious improvement: after the change, when I copied data from the "Your Computers" page, instead of it showing up as black-on-white, it was light-gray-on-white. Hard to read, but at least I could (barely) see it. This morning when I copied the data, it was WHITE-on-white - even harder to read. Pathetic. Thanks, whomever! |

Depends what you're pasting it into. Look for 'Paste special - unformatted text', or take it via a plain-text editor. |

Depends what you're pasting it into. Look for 'Paste special - unformatted text', or take it via a plain-text editor. I understand that. But why should I have to go through extra steps that I didn't have to before the (useless and resource-wasting) change? Why do these "improvements" always cause more work - there was NO need to do so, THEY JUST DON'T CARE. |
