Message 1832680 - Posted: 26 Nov 2016, 16:19:37 UTC - in response to Message 1832652.

Another potential annoyance that I'm seeing is that all page titles are now prefixed with "SETI@home:". That means that the more tabs you have open at one time, the more difficult it is to figure out which tab is which, unless you hover your mouse for a second or two to get a popup hint.
I think that's always been the case - the page source looks the same on non-Bootstrap project web pages.

But now you mention it, the pop-up on my team message board page reads:

SETI@home: Team message board for <a href=team_display.php?teamid=145273>Raccoon Lovers</a>

- I don't remember the anchor url being visible before.

Just as an example, the source for a WU detail page from yesterday morning starts out:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"><html><head>
<title>Workunit 2310440997</title>
<link rel=stylesheet type="text/css" href="http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/main.css" media="all">
        <link rel=stylesheet type="text/css" href="http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/white.css">

        <link rel=alternate type="application/rss+xml" title="SETI@home RSS 2.0" href="http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/rss_main.php">
        </head>

By last evening, the same page started with:
<!DOCTYPE html>
        <html lang="en">
        <head>
        <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    <title>SETI@home: Workunit 2310440997</title>

        <meta charset="utf-8">
        <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://setiathome.berkeley.edu//bootstrap.min.css" media="all">

        <link rel=alternate type="application/rss+xml" title="SETI@home RSS 2.0" href="http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/rss_main.php">
        </head>

I really like the new site. The change-up in color is a refreshing break from the boring black text on white background (I was so happy when ArsTechnca finally allowed me to change it to dark background with white text). I can see how switching over to CSS will help with the smaller screens on phones. Browsing this site on my Windows phone was so frustrating that I usually avoided it when I could. Now the site automatically adjusts to my phone's screen size. I don't have to scroll back and forth or zoom just to read the site's pages. This is a huge improvement over the old site. Thanks guys!

Posting here because I am hoping Dr. Anderson is keeping up with the comments, and that he will take the constructive ones into consideration.

A few things I do not like....(not necessarily in order of annoyance.)

1. The tabs problem. I often have a number of tabs open for various Seti pages, and they used to display a snippet of the page's identity. Now they all just display SETI....so it's harder to select the tab I want.
2. My sig has two img blocks in it. My Seti kitty banner, and my Boincstats stats block. They used to display side by side, which I did on purpose as it took up less vertical space in the forums. Now they are one above the other.
3. Having the text in bold when quoting another post is absolutely ridiculous.
4. On the home page, the main navigation headings.....Project, Science, Computing, Community, Site. Most web pages give you the drop downs when you mouse over the heading, and can then slide down to the item you want. You should not have to click on the heading to get the drop down items.
5. Some posts for whatever reason do not wrap text properly. The line of text goes off of the right of the screen, requiring scrolling right to read it all.

As one who spends a LOT of time on the Seti forums, I do hope that these comments are taken as being constructive and hope that they may be remedied.

Yes, this site change has broken my newly added Weather Underground signature. Removed it for the time being until the changes settle out.

It seems someone is reading the comments, the SSP recently got much improved colors, but I am still very undecided on all the black everywhere.

And it has been pointed out that I am technically incorrect when I complained about quoted text being bold. It is not, actually. Just an overblown size that makes it appear that way, and looks like shouting.
Quoted text is surely not more important than the post itself, and there are other ways of making it clear that it is quoted, rather than part of the new post text.

Can we dispense with it, please?

And all the white text and numbers just in the last few minutes got lighter and harder to read.....now closer to gray on slate.
Please, geez, put that back the way it was!

Golden rule of development is broken.
If you add new feature allow opt out from it !
If you added new color scheme - make choice available to revert to old one.

In particular, white on gray is BAD choice.

Yeah, I just noticed that when I refreshed a page. Seems to be some minor tinkering happening on a Saturday, but not addressing the overall appearance. For some reason, the phrase "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" keeps popping into my head. ;^)

Yeah, the ship took on a bit more water with this change.
This is REALLY hard to read.

Ah well, I guess one isn't supposed to see what is written on this message board.
Designed that way, and that design works perfectly.

I guess it's time to buy a Braille display.

Too much alcohol in Berkeley or what?

That quoted text marker is new, and better.

And that should be all that is needed.
Now, if we get the quotes back to standard size......................
And get the main text contrast back to a more readable level.

My eyes must be photophobic or something because they really do find these new colors more relaxing. But it doesn't really matter what I think since obviously my ophthalmological quirk is rare.

Did the text go white at some point earlier today?

And a question: green bar beside profile? user online?

Highlight special users is ticked in preferences by default. Green bar disappears if it is not ticked.

Thank you! That got rid of the green bars :)

I do not see any real benefits of the new design of the pages. Some say that the pages have become more easy to read on small screens like phones. On my phone everything is almost impossible to read. The old pages was way ahead imo on that platform.
When I look at the pages on my computer I am not able to read more than a couple of lines before my eyes get tired as the colors are hard on the eyes. And whenever the white boxes appear on the page, they
Yell at you loud and noisy and makes it hard to keep in focus

All in all I would love to get the old pages back. For me the new pages does not give me any new functions, they have rather done the opposite, drowned the pages in a grey sea of blur.
