I'm trying to attach a new Linux system to my existing seti@home account. All seems well until I get the error message as shown above. I then looked in my other two Linux systems and found the same message in the status from: systemctl status boing-client boinc-client.service - Berkeley Open Infrastructure Network Computing Client Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/boinc-client.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled) Active: active (running) since Sun 2016-11-20 10:19:16 GMT; 2 days ago Process: 782 ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/chown boinc:boinc /var/log/boinc.log /var/log/boincerr.log (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 738 ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/touch /var/log/boinc.log /var/log/boincerr.log (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 698 ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 1 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Main PID: 835 (boinc) CGroup: /system.slice/boinc-client.service 835 /usr/bin/boinc --dir /var/lib/boinc 10619 ../../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_8.00_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu 12141 ../../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_8.00_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Nov 23 08:15:30 boinc-server boinc[835]: 23-Nov-2016 08:15:30 [SETI@home] Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. To fix, remove and add this project. I haven't had cause to look at the status of boing-client recently so I've no idea how long this has been going on. A search on Google turns up a few similar problems but no solutions. A search of this forum didn't show any others having this problem. Is this a new 'feature'? :-) Cheers Chris |

OK, solved this problem - I didn't realise that when I changed the password for my account SETI@home automatically updated the account key. I stumbled on this by accident and had a Eureka moment. Cheers Chris |

The account key is a unique key linked to your account, it doesn't get changed on a password change. The weak account key does change on a password change, just as it says on the description of account keys. That's because this key is weaker than the normal account key, and using it one can only connect to the account, but not change it in any way. There's also no secret hash that the key can be broken into that shows what the strong account key is. The weak account key is based on the account ID you have at the project. |
