For the last few revisions of latest driver nVidia updates, SETI alone has wanted the latest revision. I have a GeForce 9800 with 1GB Ram and currently driver 342.00 dated 10/26/16. Seti message reads: SETI@home: Notice from server
NVIDIA GPU: Upgrade to the latest driver to process tasks using your computer's GPU 11/17/2016 1:42:51 PM.

Even though it SAYS to upgrade to latest driver, it still SEEMS to run flawlessly and retrieve WUs, run and report them properly. Could it be that just the notice is an error? Any ideas? Thanks.

There's a well known phrase - "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Your 9800 is running well, returning valid results so there is need to fix it. Indeed, having found a stable driver configuration don't upgrade it.

When you're running stock S@h applications, the scheduler often has more than one application that could be assigned to the tasks on your machine. It usually tries to assign different ones until it finds the one that performs best. For your GPU, it has been able to try the Cuda32, Cuda42, and Cuda50 apps, and, of those 3, has appeared to settle on Cuda32 as best. There is also an OpenCL app available, opencl_nvidia_SoG. However, that particular app is one that requires a more recent driver, so the scheduler is unable to assign it to tasks on your machine, hence the message you're getting.

Unless you're eager to try that OpenCL app, I'd stick with Rob's advice and just leave your driver alone. You'll keep seeing that message, but it won't prevent you from successfully running S@h.

Thanks everyone, but Jeff, I DO have the latest NVidia GeForce 342.00 driver dated 10/26/16! Can't get much newer than that. That's the issue. There is not any newer driver and it is asking me for a newer one that does not exist. Even on that day when it was installed. On every driver version that has been installed on the last 6 months or so. Unless it is REQUIRING me to install BETA drivers? Also, on this machine I don't get any "regular" WUs anymore, only GPU versions on GPU-capable projects. So this other issue also shows up with Einstein@H and I never changed any settings, so am thinking that BOINC itself is a possible issue on that one. Einstein does NOT have the NVidia issue. Only S@H does.

Which driver revisions are acceptable depends upon the plan class. There used to be a problem in BOINC wherein if any plan class required too high a driver revision, BOINC would emit that message. I thought it had been fixed.

Here are the min and max driver versions for current plan classes, where applicable. Note there isn't necessarily an active client in distribution for each of these.

Even though that's a recent driver, it's still a "legacy" driver, intended primarily to add some security updates to 340.xx for older GPUs. I doubt that it includes any of the updated features that the SoG app apparently needs, though Raistmer would be the only one who could really answer that. Drivers up to 375.95 are currently available for newer GPUs, but you're probably at the limit for a 9800GT.

The GPU driver shouldn't have any impact on getting "regular" WUs for your CPU. Do you recall the last time you ran a CPU task? It could be a simple matter of BOINC balancing resource share between S@h and any other projects you're running, in which case the pendulum will eventually swing back to S@h.

Again, I am ONLY getting GPU based WUs and they are working apparently. I can NOT seem to set anything to get regular WUs as I used to do at the SAME time. Something is amiss here. As Ageless said, I might be too new a driver.
