GOES-R on the other hand launched at 6.42pm ET, 3.42pm PT, heading for a Geosynchronous Orbit some 22,000 miles above the Earth, the Weather Channel wasn't sure which satellite it would replace, GOES-W or GOES-E. Both E & W are older weather satellites with less capability than GOES-R. The weather cooperated. ID: 1831533 ·
