The kitty crunching crew has reached 888 million all Seti kibblestones today! The last time I checked how long it would take me to catch you, it asked me which lifetime I was referring to .... :( |

The kitty crunching crew has reached 888 million all Seti kibblestones today! Congratulations Mark. That is indeed a milestone. How long do you estimate to hit the billion mark? I just went over 89million my self. [/quote] Old James |

Thanks, Stargate (SA), Brent, and James. Will the kitties hit 1 billion? As it stands today, maybe in 1.8 years or so. But a lot can change in 1.8 years! Meowmeowmeow! "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Well....just reached the 10 mill mark on this modest daily driver, in a little under one year. I was plannng a serious upgrade soon, perhaps a new build. But with Credit New and all...don't think I'll bother, yet. ...Ghia... Humans may rule the world...but bacteria run it... |

I never thought I would ever have a RAC into four digits, or ever see that 'top 25%' flag beside my name. I've been crunching, off and on, since 2006, but I've always had just a standard home computer to do the crunching. Then I got tired of waiting thirty seconds or more to pull up a web page (while sitting at a former crunching machine that I converted to a web server.) I started shopping around for a faster computer and found this refurbished workhorse of a server for about what I was going to pay for a standard desktop model. My 'webserver' needs are minimal, (just a web presence for a small local audio service). Now, within less than two weeks of having it online I've already hit over 4000 RAC and made it into the top 25%! I might have made it faster but I planned on visiting some friends over the weekend and backed it down to crunching only 50% to keep the cores cool while I was away. This thing had core temps ranging from 155 to occasionally as high as 180 when running all out so when I got back I started tweaking on it and at the last check they ranged from 131 to 154. (Dual six core Xeon processors capable of running 24 wu at a time when running full out.) I'm running it at 'use 80% of the cpu's, and run 75% of the time to hold the temps down and it's still crunching 19 wu at a time. I doubt that my RAC will hit the 5000 mark because it's leveling out at just above 4000, but then it's only been crunching at it's present rate since late Monday night so it may be due to the lag in getting the credits. This is all on the standard SETI app. Edit: That reminds me, I think the 'server' that I replaced is the same server that I used way back when I was using it to host the "New Enhanced Faq" that I noticed was still in my sig! I got to change that! hehe Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. Hi, You seem to have taken some serious thought and got it right As high as 176 F (80 C) would approach too high temps so with you current set up and cooling you have some room to play with. If you want to play safe and you are concerned with the longevity of your system then you are on the right track. I run at 136.4 F with my CPU (50% of cores active) but the main job is done by the four GPUs. And yes, the RAC can take as long as two months to level out - if even then because of the fluctuation of granted credit depending on the workload feed. Finally, even with the big help of CreditScrew ($%"&%!!!), my main host reaches 200,040,348!!! This is the second host in the Seti Universe who breaks the 200MM mark. That deserves a commemoration. Thanks all who help me to make that possible. |

Wow! I barely have 2 million. I was just thinking that we all know that it will be that one person who gets his/her first credit of their first unit of work that finds ET.... |
