Looks like folks who live on or near the southeast coast of the USA are in for a rough couple of days. I anticipate that we will lose power sometime tonight with an uncertain amount of time until it is restored. I'll report on my post storm status as soon as I am able to. Well, I stayed at my nephew's house last night in Orlando. At almost the last minute the storm veered to the north and the eye stayed offshore. Came home today and found very little damage and even better the power was still on. Forecasters have the storm making a big loop and heading back to Florida next week. I hope they are wrong. Forecasters have the storm making a big loop and heading back to Florida next week. Yeah, I saw that, and thought that's weird. When has a hurricane ever done that? The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Glad you and your family are safe and well and that property is in one piece. Very unusual if it loops back, lets hope not or at least it loses some strength. |

Actually something similar has happened in the past but not very often. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Now uploading completed workunits that were done pre-Matthew and post-Matthew when I had power but no internet connection. Matthew (the eye wall) passed about 45-50 miles from me to the east.(At low CAT 2 strength) Not many homes damaged right around here but up and down the beaches (what is left of them) a good number got washed away. The tree canopy took a serious beating. I gathered/raked up about 15 large garbage cans full of leaves & small limbs and have a stack of bigger limbs about 20' long x 4' high. (All Live Oaks & Water Oaks - No Pines) I have a brick home - reinforced roof - metal hurricane shutters and a "hurricane" garage door so I'm reasonably well protected. But I sure did think about leaving :) It was a bit nervewracking with the winds at about 45-50 mph for 3 hours and gusts up to 75-80 or so..........not real sure I would/want to do it again. Odd things though............I have a pretty secure brick porch so as the storm moved away I peeked out the door to look around for fallen trees - the air smelled just like you were at the beach - a very strong salty smell from over 22 miles from the beach. And a very odd rumbling noise like traffic or a train in the distance but there was neither going on in the midst of the storm.....very odd. Now back to being the Sunshine State / Mickey World |
