Hi,

I've done this on many other PCs, but I can't get BOINC to connect on my new Dell laptop. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, set my Norton firewall to allow access by ALL the .exe files in the Boinc directory. No help

Any Suggestions?

Thanks,
Andy

BOINC version 7.6.22 (x64)
Seti@home project
see other details in the image below:

I posted this same question on the BOINC community board, but I was told to re-install BOINC (which I've already done a few times, with no success) and no more information or suggestions.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

I must go blind, but cannot find who told you to reinstall: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=11186
Also, I offered it's possible you have to specify which port numbers to use.

The problem is at least with the firewall, not with BOINC. Perhaps ask Norton how to white list programs?

My apologies. I am the one who is going insane, you are not going blind.

I have changed all the Norton settings, so I don't think it's that, and I use Norton on all my PCs with no such problem. I'll have to see if they have any advice on using a specific (different?) port.

Once again, I'm the one who's probably blind, insane and mistaken.

Thanks,
Andhy

Norton firewall should have some log for what and when was blocked.

I don't know what your problem is:
- BOINC Manager can't communicate with BOINC client on localhost (internal in-the-computer communication, do not need LAN or Internet)
(BOINC Manager don't contact Internet, it may contact LAN only if user tells it to connect/control other BOINC client running on another computer on the LAN)
- BOINC client can't communicate to servers on Internet

BOINC Manager = boincmgr.exe
BOINC client = boinc.exe

Did you reboot the computer recently?

When you added the individual BOINC programs, you did that like this?
How do I add exceptions to the Norton Antivirus firewall?

Launch Norton Internet Security, click "Settings" and choose "Network." Select "Smart Firewall" from the left pane and choose "Configure." Select "Configure" next to General Rules and click "Add" to launch the Add Rule wizard. Select "Allow" and click "Next."

Or did you do this?
How do I exclude a file from Norton 360?

Click the "Norton 360" icon when it appears to view the program's main screen. Click "Settings," click "Antivirus" and the click the "Scans and Risks" tab. Scroll down and move to the Extensions/Low Risks section. Click the "Configure" link on the "Items to Exclude From Scans" row.

Well, since I got a new Intel PC, the discussion is moot, as far as I am concerned.

Thanks, all, for your advice.

I have the same problem with my computer. I have win 10 and I use the windows defender firewall. I had no problem with boinc with my last computer before this one. I have seen that I cant upload/download work a lot this past time. Once the upload/download server was down. I checked that. Something must have happende!
