I wonder how the winter handling is? And the winch is for getting yourself out of a oops possibly? Lol. ![]() ![]() |

It is extremely fun! Once I get the boating lights on, and it registered, and my boating license, it will be even better. I have a 9,9 hp outboard motor for it with electric start and electric tilt. This is definitely an all season, all weather, all terrain machine. It will go through any amount of mud, water, or snow, and will climb a very steep incline. The canopy will be great, especially after it is fitted with screens to keep bugs from taking me apart piece by piece. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! The winch is just in case I get stuck, which is extremely unlikely, but I will be able to pull others out that do get stuck. I am as prepared for any possible event as I can be. I even have a land anchor in case I get stuck with no trees around. I have a boat anchor, and paddle along with life jackets. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! A couple of hand held shots of the moon taken the other evening. The lens is a Sigma 150-500mm zoom, at full stretch. On my D7000 that is effectively a 750mm lens. (Who said you can't hand hold anything over 300mmm?) ![]() ![]() These are not retouched, and the blue background is the result of shooting just after dusk, with a short (1/200 sec) exposure. Next month, if I remember I'll try to get a few shots using a tripod.... (These are reduced resolution copies of the original 5MB files, I'll gladly forward a full resolution copy if anyone wants their bandwidth clogged...) Stunning detail! I just can't justify the cost of a long telephoto lens for moon shots. I'd need to book a safari or become a private detective or something. ![]() |

Here are a few pictures I took in Santa Fe this weekend. Fall colors and abundant art. I really like this city. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Quite a bit of detail has been lost in re-sampling the file so it didn't swamp the average user - the full blown raw file is sensational. I got the lens from a friend who was upgrading to the Nikon fixed 500/f4. I got the Sigma for its trade in price he was quoted, which was nowhere near the new price. Actually I use that lens quite a bit, its great for getting the wild birds around the marina and focuses in really close (about 7feet), I'll have to dig out one of the "sparrow's head" shots I took a time back. I've seen some good shots using a smart phone and a telescope like yours - there are some quite cheap things that hold the phone's camera to the eyepiece available. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

That's the sort of thing, and for about a tenner well worth trying! Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Well something a little different. I was desperately trying to get my main PC to install new Nvidia drivers when I became aware of shouting outside. As my kitchen window gives a good view of the street I went to look out and was confronted with this. ![]() Seems that the Chinese takeaway was on fire!! The smoke cleared a bit ![]() The smoke and flames were issuing from a rooftop chimney that comes up from the kitchen in the take away. I went to have a look later, there was no damage to the roof, but couldn't see the front as the fire brigade were still in attendance. ![]() Suspect that will make the local paper. No ambulances attended so it looks like there were no injuries. |

That's too bad. I hope that wasn't your favorite shop. I finally found a decent one near me. So many of them seem like "fronts" for something else. ![]() |

Just shows you what a decent camera in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing can achieve. I only really take snaps when it's a special trip or occasion to record for posterity, or something just catches my eye. I am not keen enough to carry a pocket camera with me all the time. https://www.telescopeadapters.com/116-deluxe-astrophotography-kits-125-for-nikon ![]() ![]() |

Many thanks for that, but they will only work with SLR & DSLR cameras with un-screwable lenses. My P500 is a bridge camera with a fixed lens. Nothing is impossible. But sometime the impossible costs a little more. Here is an adapter made for the P500 fixed lens camera. ![]() ![]() |

The problem with tele-converters and step-rings is they cut the light hitting the film plane by quite a bit, so you need a larger lens aperture, slower shutter speed, and more sensitive film, which lowers image resolution. I'm speaking purely from my background in 35mm photography, so I don't know how digital compensates for this. ![]() |

I'm speaking purely from my background in 35mm photography, so I don't know how digital compensates for this. Tele-converters do. They do that because they increase the focal length but obviously can't change the physical aperture, so the f marks on the lens barrel become wrong. Step rings, mount converters and the like don't. That's the physics. Digital can't compensate for physics. What it does is get a noisier picture by turning up the gain. Same as fast film having larger grain. |

Step rings, mount converters and the like don't. I think you're right. Those are just connection conversions, not focal length. ![]() |

That type fit onto what would be the filter screw on the lens. You can probably find someone in the UK selling similar things, UK supplier will be in the right time zone for asking, and, from memory there are a few astronomy suppliers in Sarf Lardun Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
