Bernie Vine posted some lovely photos in another thread and sort of suggested
this thread for photos taken by us.

Rules:

Post only original photos taken by you.

Not too big. In inches I wouldn't go much bigger than 8" x 10", but that's just
a general guideline, not a hard and fast rule. In pixels that would be 576 x 720.

Let's keep them rated PG, please. :-)

Any suggestions for more rules?

Well a one of my hobbies is photography (I carry a small Cannon Ixus on my belt at all times) I might just monopolise the thread.

However to continue here, another couple of pics taken yesterday.

And a clue to where I was. This is my dads garden

No not a real goose on the lawn.

This one was taken less than 5 minutes walk from where my dad lives.

PS At the last count my "pictures" folder on my PC had over 42,000 pictures.

That's a beautiful garden, Bernie. I would be sitting back there all the time.

For some reason I think of Malta when seeing the pics.

Very nice. I'd love to take a driving trip out West someday. I've never been west of the Mississippi River.

I took this picture in New Mexico last weekend. Close to where Mike's picture was taken.

Bernie, Hope you have all those photos archived somewhere on or off-line. That would be a real tragedy to loose due to a hard drive failure.

Oh yes, I have them all backed up on my home server, plus I brought a USB HDD specifically to back them up. It is only connected when backing up, rest of the time it is off line. So they exist in three places.

Time to add a picture or two, perhaps, butterflies.

I volunteer for the local Community Garden project in my local park and walk there every day. A couple of weeks ago saw this butterfly on one of our posters.

A red admiral, also another one

A Comma, due to the white mark on the wing

I am actually off to work in the garden this morning so may post a few more pictures later.

& possibly for extra safety, how about a DVD or Blu-ray disk?

Well I did at first consider DVD but it would require nearly 30 DVD's to store the 220GB the "My pictures" folder currently is ( there are also a few videos in there), and around 5 Blue Ray discs. I don't have and do not want a blue ray recorder.

So currently they are stored on my main machine, my server and a removable HDD. I will have to hope that is enough.

Fair point, but it was also mine until 6 years ago. I had the same setup as you but unfortunately when my workstation went down, applied the restore from my home server only to find that the database was also corrupted.

As pointed out to me on the Microsoft forum for WHS, that was the one sticking point until they introduced a further feature to cover that. Too late for me though as I lost 119gb :-(

All now backed up like yours but also on 4 Blu-ray disks.
