A lot of people are pretty uninformed about drugs

An inhaler is two drugs. The first is the active ingredient, long generic, anybody can make and is dirt cheap. The second drug is the machine that blows it. That machine has to be tested to the standard of "safe and effective" and a patent is issued to the maker of the machine so no one else can duplicate it. When the world came off CFC's new machines had to be made and tested and new patents issued. You do want to test it to be sure it doesn't overdose or under dose, or have some part that people have an allergic reaction to. That testing has to be done on general morons er population so that the idiots get a chance to f' it up. Same damn thing on epi-pens. Drug companies love these two drug things, because it lets them wrap a new patent on an old drug. Now maybe vapes should be classed as a drug delivery device and required to be tested to the safe and effective level?

Now a country that doesn't require testing to the safe and effective level, well, thalidomide.

Now as to that price, it isn't the cost of the drug and machine. That price is the cost of that testing and the lawyers needed to write the reports to convince the regulator that it is safe and effective. Then there is the profit motivation of that patent granting a monopoly. I suppose someone will want to do away with patents, like on wi-fi.

BTW I think someone mentioned GSK. Nice UK company. Amazing how they will price gouge the US. After all it isn't like we saved their sorry butts in WWII or anything. It isn't like their drugs only have to pass the standards like thalidomide.
