I guess i wasnt to clear, and i am sorry, when i boot uo pc and then start bonic, the task are all gone, them i have to resign up for seti, and start over again, another question i have noticed, seems that bonic is using more memory at idle it shows 1.8 gigs, but after i get seti started the memory use jumps to 3.5. is this normal when running to graphic cards? thank you for ur help

Hello Bogie,
I don't have any idea yet what your PC's issue is...but it has "Abandoned" around 600 tasks, plus there's a few other Error types.
See: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8031776&offset=0&show_names=0&state=6&appid=

If you shut down your PC and restart it, does it run a Scandisk at startup?
Once Windows has finished loading, has Boinc started automatically?

Cheers,
Rob :-)

If I remember there was a problem like this a while back. It had to do with communication with the server.

It's something like this: your machine finishes wu contacts the server for a replacement, the server asks how many tasks your machine has and at that point, the connection is interrupted, and the server marks the tasks as abandoned. If you look they were all abandoned at exactly the same second.

I cant' find the old posts about this so cannot remember if any definitive reason was found. It was thought to be a bad internet connection of some sort. How do you connect this machine to the internet?

Also you say Boinc is using 3.5 GB, where are you seeing this?

Looking at mine the Boinc Client is currently using 8 megs.

BilBg is usually the resident technical expert in the Q&A section. He'll usually reply back within 24hrs if he has thought of something else.

I looked quickly at the link he provided and didn't find anything very helpful except for:
I guess that means that BOINC and Windows are fighting over the task: BOINC is trying to start it up, and Windows is trying to shut it down.
Solution - well, workround: shut down BOINC before shutting down Windows.

I also looked quickly thru the list of ~600 "abandoned" and there is a handful of "Aborted" from the 26th of June. From my little experience, this is usually something done by the user.

Maybe others will jump in

I looked at the list a 2nd time after the above quote from Bernie Vine, and noticed that it occurered on:
30 Jun 2016, 19:22:28 UTC
29 Jun 2016, 19:01:42 UTC

and...
4 aborted on 28 Jun 2016, 23:06:43 UTC, and
~20 on 26 Jun 2016

I looked quickly at the link he (BilBg) provided and didn't find anything very helpful except ...

I think the "moral" from that thread is:
Exit BOINC manually before restarting Windows

New Windows update changed one error code (which informs programs that Windows is shutting down)
BOINC don't know about that new error code and tries to start tasks while Windows is in shutdown and they refuse to start
Of course you will see the errored tasks only after you restart BOINC

So until they release new fixed BOINC - Exit BOINC manually before restarting Windows

But I'm not sure that this is the case for the problem reported in this thread.

@BilBg: any idea why Mike's RAM usage balloons by almost 2GB when Boinc is running?

Which processes use the (most) memory? (check by Windows Task Manager, Process Explorer)

(and BOINC, not bonic)

Firefox open 277,472 uses 19% -

Lunatics 108,460 from 118,460 uses 17%

i have 16 gigs of memory, used is 3.1 gigs

i am running 8 tasks on the cpu, and 8 tasks on my 2 video cards, have run it like this before, with out any memory problems, i haveent checked memory uses on other pc yet. i uninstall mozilla maintins, plus used msconfig to make sure nothing odd running in the background, and checked services to make sure nothing is running also. Soon as i close bonic memory drops to 1.6 used memory.i checked my other pcs running win8 and theres running bonic stays at about 1.6-1.7 used memory. could firefox be some of the reason for the high memory uses, i really wanna ty a lot for helping me, this has me totally lost as to whats wrong.
