I've been through several different hardware iterations with my computer, as well as several different linux variants. While I've got most of my workunits in a single "variant", I have several legacy entries hanging out there in "my computers" when I show all of the computers used on my ID. The problem is, when I try to do the "merge by name" I get a bunch of entries stating that the merge failed because the computers are "incompatible". All but one of the entries I'm trying to merge are on the same "name" for the computer, I know I won't be able to do anything about the one that's named differently. Can this be resolved by anything that I can do? |

Sometimes it is possible to merge non-similar computers manually, but if the differances are too great that will fail. In reallity there is little need to merge retired computers, keep them as a record of what hardware, software and performance. The reason I'm interested in merging the results is that there's a significant difference between credits reported here (right now 7,054,253) and what's picked-up by referencing the "current iteration" (right now 4,918,498) - the rest are tucked-away in those old iterations I can't merge. At your scale the difference is piddly, at mine it's 30%.... |

Merging computers won't merge or increase total credit. Your total credit, urrently at 7,058,675 is the sum total of all your hardware contributions, meaning that the 4,918,498 is part of that 7 million total. By merging hardware, you will not "add" the 4.9 million to the 7 million. |

Your claim is quite interesting, as the total shown for the "current computer" is itself the sum of several different iterations that /did/ successfully merge, hence my interest in performing a merge of the remainder in the first place. All of the iterations dating back from now to /after/ 4 NOV 12 successfully merged to become the "current" iteration. If the credits didn't total up in this fashion from a merge, there would be a discrepancy between the sum of "current" and "unmerged" vs. the listed total I mentioned...this discrepancy is absent. |

Then you misunderstand what I'm saying. Of course the total for your current computer will increase by the number of credits from other computers if you merge them together. What I stated was that by merging computers, you won't merge above your total credit as reflected in your account. In other words, merging computers is doing nothing other than putting the total into a single computer object. |

Okay then, yes I misread your intent. However, all the tracking and reporting mechanisms use just what's reported under the "current" iteration, so for instance my total here doesn't match my totals on any other site using the credits data forwarded from here. Effectively, only in one little pocket (here) do I actually have the correct total, all other places it's not containing the unmerged credits and therefore shows 30% less. |

However, all the tracking and reporting mechanisms use just what's reported under the "current" iteration, so for instance my total here doesn't match my totals on any other site using the credits data forwarded from here. It is not correct that all tracking and reporting only use your most current computer. The reason for the discrepancy between what you see here at SETI and other sites is due to the nature of having to export user statistics, which only happens once per day as I understand it. If SETI's database goes down and an export doesn't happen (which has occurred more often that you'd think), or if a stat website goes down and can't process new exports (which also has happened more often than you'd think), the stats sites will show different totals. In all though, the stats websites, when in sync with SETI, will show the total for your account as well as the total for your computer(s). As I said previously, merging your computers will only combine the credit for your computer objects. It doesn't change or increase the total credit reflected in your account or exported to stats sites. |

33,049 + 247,006 + 42,862 + 253,946 + 122,682 + 441,098 + 38,040 + 488,464 + 7,302 + 461,306 = 2,135,755 is the total credit of your other computers not included host ID: 7425224. 2,135,755 + 4,930,876 (total of host ID: 7425224) = 7,066,631 which at this time of typing is exactly your total credit. |

Right. All of you, thank you for your inputs! There has apparently been a "glitch in the matrix" at some point, as the following has happened: 1. BilBg has pointed to exactly one of the pages I was using as a test of comparison results, using the same result URL as compared to my saved link. 2. Until some point in the past 48 hours it was showing the ~4.9M number, as that was the last time I checked it. 3. The other links for "Cross-project statistics" on my "My Account" page were also showing the ~4.9M number. 4. Now /all/ of those sites are reporting roughly the same number I get at the top of the "My Account" page, indicating that all but the most recent credits are included. So, unless someone 'fesses-up to having poked something somewhere I'm simply going to go with "strange things happen" and press ahead, as the entire reason I was looking to solve the merge issue was to resolve precisely those results reports. This was an issue with seeing my "full" reported credits for quite some time, I remember first actually noticing around the time I crossed the 5M mark. Yes, Ageless, your figures match mine and were the basis of the brief back & forth with OzzFan on that specific aspect. Again, thanks for the inputs! Edited to add that it appears the "BOINC Statistics for the WORLD!" is offline. |

Next time check this page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/stats/ If the files are old all the "stats sites" will show that old info. (if you get user.gz you can find in it all the users of SETI@home including yourself) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
