The "Use CPU" box is and has been UNCHECKED. The "Use Nvidia GPU" box is and has been CHECKED. Apparently there no option for GPU ONLY. |

If you uncheck CPU for seti@home you will only use GPUs if all the other buttons are ticked. That is the way it is supposed to work though. Then you have settings in your preferences in Boinc that might behave unintentional if set wrong though. _________________________________________________________________________ Addicted to SETI crunching! I concur in what you say that unchecking the "Use CPU" box should result in ONLY GPU tasks being downloaded provided the appropriate GPU box is checked.. In my case that is not true as I am receiving both GPU and CPU tasks. Surely the designers could make a simple quick change to the preferences and eliminate this glitch. As stated in my original message, I am virtually certain that my machines previously were not processing SETI CPU tasks when I was heavily involved in the WCG team competitions wherein we team members obviously were dedicating all of our CPUs to the tasks at hand. It is quite honestly though an irritant that I am sure admin will correct. On second thought, what I may have done during the mentioned competitions (all CPU tasks) is obviously suspended all SETI activity for the duration. Honestly though I do not remember that occurring. Thanks for the assistance. Bill |

I respond to my initial question and I thank the two who kindly offered potential solutions. I found the solution: I reset the Resource Sharing for SETI to ZERO (0) from 50 and left the sharing for WCG and Rosetta at 50. At this moment, my four GPUs are happily crunching SETI and my 18 CPUs are happily crunching WCG and Rosetta and finishing the SETI tasks that were already partially processed; and no more SETI CPU tasks have been downloaded. And I offer regrets to admin as it appears I should have posted my assistance request in a different forum. Again THANKS! BET |

You have made Seti a backup project- so once you finish your current Seti work you won't get any more unless there is no other work for both of your other 2 projects. Grant Darwin NT |

I have a feeling that this is what he wants and Seti on CPU will be just a backup on that resource only. Cheers. |

Neither Rosetta nor WCG currently offer any GPU workunits. Does that mean he will still get SETI GPU tasks, since the other two projects don't have any? |

His other projects are just CPU only projects Grant so they'll get whatever CPU time is available to them while his GPU's will just do Seti. I guess that's one way to do it, although it will be interesting to see if it does work that way. If it works the way it should (or so appears to me) there would be no new Seti work as long as there is work from the other projects- resource share is overall, AFAIK there aren't separate resources for GPU or CPU, it's just the system as a whole resource. It would have made more sense just to de-select the CPU from the Seti account & save the changes & then update IMHO. Grant Darwin NT |

CORRECT; That is the way I interpret the final outcome. Honestly though, the planners need to tweak the preferences so someone or all can conveniently run only SETI on their GPU and reserve the CPUs for their CPU-only tasks. Thanks again for the interest and comments. Maybe old-age does still have an advantage. BET PS I would have imagined that some of you may have correctly observed that the date in my ID is the year of birth. PS 2. Grant, take another look at the preferences and you will notice that checking the CPU box will result in receiving CPU tasks only. That option needs to be modified. I am at a loss to understand why the programmers configured that option the way they did. |

the planners need to tweak the preferences so someone or all can conveniently run only SETI on their GPU and reserve the CPUs for their CPU-only tasks. That is already possible. On this website, click on your name at the top right hand corner of this page (or the home page)- in Preferences, Preferences for this project, click on "Seti@home Preferences". Click on "Edit preferences", then click on the "Use CPU" box to make the tick go away, then Click on "Update preferences". If you have multiple preferences, you need to make the change for each of those preferences as well (if they are being used by any of your systems). Then click on Update on the BOINC Manager for it to get those changes For the simple view, make sure Seti is selected for the Project, then click on Project Commands, then click on Update. In Advanced View, Project tab, make sure Seti is selected, then Update (or wait for it to contact the Scheduler itself). Grant Darwin NT |

But if he does that then Seti won't be a backup project on CPU without manual intervention Grant. ;-) Cheers. |

PS 2. Grant, take another look at the preferences and you will notice that checking the CPU box will result in receiving CPU tasks only. That option needs to be modified. I am at a loss to understand why the programmers configured that option the way they did. You would only get CPU work if it was the only thing selected. If GPU is selected, and CPU isn't, then that's what will happen- GPU work, but no CPU work. You select it- a tick- if you want to use that option. Unselect it- no tick- if you don't want to use that option. So make sure for Seti CPU isn't selected. Make sure GPU is selected. It works for me- I get CPU work, GPU work, but no iGPU- as per my settings. Grant Darwin NT |

Regarding SETI Preferences: All is well that ends well and thanks to Robertmiles, Wiggo, Kissago, Grant, and Viper my computers are processing, both CPU and GPU, exactly as I desire. AND, I believe that a major portion of the problem as I originally diagnosed it was" I could not see the forest for the trees" and I just about made "a mountain out of a molehill". Thanks for the sincere effort to assist and I for my part am closing this portion of the thread. A happy SETI and distributed computing BOINC supporter. Bill |
