Now that the weather is warming up, 7615058 is hitting 110.7°F-112.3°F according to CPI-Z while running BOINC... admittedly on the charger at the same time. (It reached 91°F outside, and I have the AC set to 75/76 usually.) |

The default configuration for BOINC on Android stops applications from running when the device battery temp reaches 40ºC(104ºF). You can set it to a lower value by going to Preferences, checking Show advanced preferences and controls... and then scrolling down to MAX battery temperature. Hal Nice to see that someone has been thoughtful here. And it helps of course to take the handset concerned (mine's a HTC One)out of the the gel case. Regards George |

I've got some cheap Walmart tablet that doesn't even get warm to the touch when running all four cores flat out. Battery sits at ~30C and the CPU at ~52C from what I can tell. It's been running for 16hrs and it hasn't even spit a finished WU out yet. I'm not worried since it pulls not even 5W and is just sitting under my bed for now, but heat is for sure not an issue (ambient temps average 21C) It's only an A7 core, though, and barely spits out 1GFLOP. I'd expect the newer (and more expensive) phones and tablets to do more and heat more. |

Mine is a 2-core; I've tried, "unofficially" with a 4-core that belongs to a friend, and hitting anything above 2 makes me worry about the case melting... (pretty sure that won't happen, but still). I think CPU-Z reported 117°+ the one time I checked, and that was with the hot spot hanging off of a table edge. |

FWIW guys, my current HTC One http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/host_app_versions.php?hostid=7988119 varies between 0.78 & 1.14 GLOPS. Runs more when I set the charge limit to 20% (the default was 50%) and took the handset out of its gel case. This reduces the instances of "Suspended while battery cools down..." Latest WU crunched in 15 hours - previous one was 60 IIRC. HTH George |

Basic case, Suspend temp set to 50°C, and if on the charger usually 'battery up'/screen-side down to help the heat rise from the battery without having to move through the phone. Usually this keeps temp below 106°F... unless I decide to start actually using it. And the battery stops charging if it hits 115°F, which has happened outside with BOINC off, internet in use, external/backup battery plugged in, and temp's around today's high of 88°F. |
