Already known issues and their possible solutions listed here: http://lunatics.kwsn.info/index.php/topic,1809.0.html (info will be updated there if new issues or better solutions will be available). If you experience GUI lags or video driver restarts while using v8.12 GPU builds please post link to affected host along with (see link above) attempted command lines and one that helped and GPU model. This info will help to improve application's adaptation to your particular setup in future versions. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Cause Lunatics down more than day already worth to repeat already known issues here too: Known issues: -GUI lags/driver restarts on some GPU/driver combos: To reduce/eliminate GUI lags while using v8.12 GPU applications try to add next parameters to applications's command line (there are few different ways to supply command line to app please consult with BOINC documentation and app's Readme ): -sbs 256 -period_iterations_num 100 Increase value in -period_iterations_num option if needed. - running together with GPU AstroPulse application and using -total_GPU_instances_num N process instances incorrectly bound to same instead of different CPUs in CPUlock mode. For single vendor GPUs use older -instances_per_device N option for both apps. For nVidia builds: - -use_sleep leads to stop of processing with "SoG" 8.12 version Please use this build instead if you need -use_sleep option: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/3X4g/HwEhUWHCE Note, that NV GPUs with number of compute units 3 or less have -use_sleep enabled by default so SoG builds will be affected by this issue with default settings. There can be excessive CPU usage for some of tasks. If lower CPU usage desirable supply -use_sleep option to command line. Detailed descriptions of mentioned options can be found here (for brief description look application's ReadMe file): http://lunatics.kwsn.info/index.php/topic,1808.msg60931.html#msg60931 SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. To fix SoG hang issue on low-end GPUs or with -use_sleep ebaled please replace existing v8.12 NV SoG binary with one from this pack: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/6DBh/LD9MQr5Pz All pack's content should be extracted to project directory. Best route is to going to anonymous platform. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

I'm getting real good about producing ghosts. Didn't notice the change in the app version from 8.00 > 8.12 in this new r3472 app and dumped my onboard cache of work with the old r3430 app. Probably should have a warning to finish your current work then set NNT and THEN update the app. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Is that the same r3472 that Raistmer has linked in "testing help wanted" thread? . . I am guessing that it is so I will switch from CUDA50 to SoG and confirm that. |

In testing thread will be published special builds with increased verbosity or even not to run onlline ones (will be directly said in post with link to such build). Builds posted in this thread (or included in installer) are general public production builds for day-to-day crunching. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

I am still waiting for the general release of the 0.45 Lunatics installer. I thought somebody else should be "pioneers" and take the arrows. Didn't figure that my hesitation and cautiousness would burn me installing just the app I wanted since I have deleted my CUDA apps and settings in my app_info. The new SoG app works so much better on the GUPPI's and works better than CUDA on the non-VLAR in my rigs. I take it you can choose only SoG and not CUDA in the beta installer? I take it you can choose only SoG and not CUDA in the beta installer? No, you can chose either. I used it to switch to SoG from CUDA50, then back to CUDA50 a day or 2 later without any loss of work or cache. Grant Darwin NT |

I see. I read through the new app_info created and see Richard covered all bases it seems. Entries for all levels of CUDA like old and entries for 8.00 and 8.12 app levels. I still have a question about the choices for AP CPU apps. In my case it defaulted to the old SSE4.1 level for AMD CPU being preferred over AVX. However, don't I remember that since Joe Segur left, the only SSE level of app being used is SSE3? SSE4.1 is not being used even though the installer selects it? In that case choosing the AVX version is faster than the SSE3 version the installer puts in in place of a real SSE4.1 app. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

There won't be a general release of the installer until the application changes have completed and finished. When Raistmer sent me r3472 for inclusion, he also said There will be new update soon (on next coding window). Since r3472 was a real bug fix, that implies a v8.13 (or suchlike) stock update too, so I want to wait until I can incorporate that into app_info as well. I've also posted about the AMD / AVX installer choice in the appropriate thread - that doesn't belong here. |

In Lunatics we trust. At least the kitties do. I am also waiting for the next installer to be finalized before I make any other changes here. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

To fix SoG hang issue on low-end GPUs or with -use_sleep ebaled please replace existing v8.12 NV SoG binary with one from this pack: Does this version limit the -sbs size on low performance GPUs? |
Raistmer Send message Joined: 16 Jun 01 Posts: 6325 Credit: 106,370,077 RAC: 121 |
No, common default is 128MB. Can be changed via -sbs N option. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Thanks. However, it never uses more than 378MB(from GPU-z) 768MB assigned. |

. . So I should use the version of V3472 on your site not the one in Beta3 package? . . Can I use that by simply replacing the app file in projects/setiathome directory with the test version? |

Hello, since update of nVidia drivers, most of my calculations using setiathome_8.12_windows_intelx86__opencl_nvidia_SoG.exe starts to < 1% then fall back and hangs to 0.001% I'm not the only one having this problem as seen in https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79707 My config: Windows 7/64 bit [up to date] BOINC mananager 7.6.22 (x64) [up to date] GeForce GT 430 w/ 2048 Mo nVidia driver 368.39 [up to date] DirectX 11.0 Please let me know: 1. if a cure exist. 2. if I can tune GPU BOINC apps to be more effective regarding the fact my video board got 2 Go (2xtimes standard) of memory. I'm ok to go on testing whatever if you furnish precise info/procedure. Tanks in advance for your time & concern, Marc. P.S. I can test on Ubuntu 16 or various linuxes if you want to! |
