On Sep 4 I started using SoG for NVidia Beta 4 Changing from Lunatic 0.43b. Just for "chuckles and grins" I did an informal hand recording of the progress. When the graphs flatten out I'll add something (???) the cmd line.

I have 4 computers running 1 WU per card with a dedicated CPU for support. I was running with an empty cmd file. The NV 1070, 680 and 970 are running on AMD 8350's . the NV 770 is running on an gen-1 core-7. all are using win-7.

??? If you have Tthrottle running right click on the icon in the "system tray" and then click on restore , do what you need then minimise it again , i've never had to restart any of my computers to use the program .

Mine is under Windows Vista, which uses a < symbol for showing the hidden icons. I finally found a way to identify the right icon - hover the cursor over each of the system icons until you find the one where the description shown includes the word Tthrottle. Use that icon to start TThrottle again; expect most of the other methods for starting it to start a second copy, which will shut down as soon as it detects that it is a second copy and probably before it opens a window on the screen.

Another peculiarity of Tthrottle - if you change the Set Core limit, the change does not take effect until you do a Windows restart so the Tthrottle is also restarted.

For my computer, trying to reduce the CPU temperature below 65 C apparently interacts with the CPU fan profile I can't control so that it only reduces CPU usage, without also making the CPU temperature below 65 C. This is with the lower limit of each CPU core (except the one used by GPU tasks) set to 5%, so that the usage of these CPU cores has dropped to 5% each.

I'm thinking to telling BOINC to use fewer CPU cores next, to see if that will help. I may also try a few of the other graphics boards I have, to look for signs that the problem is specific to my 560 board. Any other ideas on what to try after that?

I go back to power. If you have access to a voltmeter, look at your 12v (yellow). Especially see what happens when you start up and shut down BOINC.

No voltmeter available. I know how to use one, though.

Telling BOINC to use only one CPU core did not help - no CPU temperature reduction. This may be because the CPU portion of GPU task is not limited, and Windows decided to run a CPU-intensive task, so total CPU use is still about 50% of the total, even with the one remaining CPU task limited to 5% of what it could use.

Good points, all. A nice Arctic for ~$20 and a shot of Silver wouldn't be amiss. But he's got the temps down to 65c, and is still getting the errors. Somehow, I don't think it's heat, at least on the CPU.

If it still errors out i would start to Think that the PSU is rippling as hell when it computes instead of having a solid +12V line.

The Cpu can get hot but for 24/7 use i would suggest that the inner core temperature of the Cpu is no more than 70-75 degrees Celsius (158 degrees F) in the long run when all cores are Active.

I had one recently where you could hear the switching transistors whining. It was throwing all kinds of errors. Changed out the PS, haven't had a glitch since.

The Cpu can get hot but for 24/7 use i would suggest that the inner core temperature of the Cpu is no more than 70-75 degrees Celsius (158 degrees F) in the long run when all cores are Active.

I don't get too worried until mid-70s either. I have one Z400 that runs about 5c hotter than its twin, and tends to live in the mid-70s with peaks in the low 80s. Trying to decide if I need to take it apart and try some better grease on the heat sink. I've done about all I can with fans and the like. Never throws errors, but still a worry.

But some 12v ripple sure would cause what Robert reports ...

Or digital voltmeter on AC range hooked to DC line? If it's that bad, should be able to see ... Strangely, my analog meter read mass AC v but the digital one didn't. Think the analog cheapie is pretty crap.

. . I had a look at your results and you have not thrown an ivalid for over 30 hours, and there have been a lot of validated WUs in that time. You may have solved the problem already. What is the PSU rating on that HP box? I am guessing 280W (going on the fact that my HP Core(2) Duo has a 240W PSU). It may be simply that the GTX560 (which needs 150W for itself) needs more power than it can provide. Have you considered trying the 560 in your other PC? Also that GTX560 needs 2 6pin external power connectors (PCIe), does the HP have them?
