Actually agreed on this point Raistmer makes. If you're using your machine while crunching, and experience Lag, Try not crunching while using the machine. and the facilities are there to do that.

It's nice when you can have your cake and eat it too, but now with all the change, isn't the time to be expecting perfection, it's growing pains.

I would like to remind those who not too comfort with BOINC interface and found it's much easy to switch project than to change BOINC setup:
There is "don't use GPU while PC in use" option that remover any GPU-related lags once at for all.

As Raistmer stated that is the easiest way to solve your problem.

Thanks for this prompt. I'd just been closing BOINC until now when I've needed to use the PC. It had become unusable otherwise. At least this way the CPU can be kept at 100%

Boinc provides a smart way to suspend processing using exclusive_apps option in cc_config.xml.

Example.

<exclusive_app>VLC.exe</exclusive_app>

Well, respond to topic's question:

F*ck, Sh*t, No.

My RAC is skydiving. (and don't give me that b*llsh*t of "this is for science" etc.)

I'm crunching for RAC, in decent (ancient) way.

Not running BitcoinUtopia or similar (overcredit) BOINC projects.

That is my answer to to topic's question.

@WezH
The problem is the guppi wus take roughly 4x - 6x longer to complete for up to roughly 2x credit, hence the nose dive. I'm not sure if you can monitor your system(s) at all but what you could do is abort all the guppi wus going to your gpus and then regularly go in and abort any new guppi wus that will have been sent through for the gpus. In this way, you will be able to keep mb wus going to your gpus, thereby pushing your credit back up.

It's a solution, not optimal though, but it will help you.

cheers

And some would call this cherry-picking and SETI-unethical behavior. And I would agree this time.
There is another possibilities like task re-scheduling that will do the same w/o any harm to project itself.

So where can WezH get the re-scheduling app from ... I don't think it's enough to just say it's a possibility without giving the solution.

I was thinking the same thing about rescheduling this morning ... move vlar to CPU, and non-vlar to GPU. Could it be a bat file? What about active tasks, and differentiate about what is running and waiting?

I found a note about it (not sure who said it): Just part of what was said.

Warning. Rescheduling messes up the APR you are moving away from - BOINC thinks those tasks were done on CPU and will be amazed how fast the ran. Rescheduling also plays havoc with credit (for pretty much the same reason).

EDIT: And what would happen it you get over 100 tasks applied to a device, could go friggin' nuts.

Where WezH can? You don't think? So, start to.
Or now nasty things will be "in the wezH name"?

And regarding "app availability" - it's not so hard to devise it by yourself. But sure it will require few more brain cells than to press "abort" button

It may requires fewer brain cells to locate the old program still on the creators site. It does need updated to work with the current version, but a detailed step by step process was provided by someone else that uses it recently.

I think that time has come and gone. People running Two GUPPIs with the Stock App on their nVidia card are taking just about as long as a recent CPU. On my machine a GPU Shorty takes about 2.5 minutes while a GUPPI takes about 20 minutes, a 10 times difference. Then there's the problem with a GPU GUPPI being paid Twice as much if it's matched with another GPU verses being matched with a CPU.

So, I wouldn't worry about CreditFew going nuts as it's already there.

@Raistmer
I think you need to calm down. If you are going to suggest to someone that they should use a rescheduling tool then at least you should advise where such is/can be found/how to create/etc. Not every one has the ability or the technical know how to create a tool for themselves. Not everyone is as adept as you.

There is no option in the account page for anyone to deselect guppi wus. There are options for MB v7, MB v8 and AP v7 and I can choose to deselect any of those. The only manner available for me to deselect guppi wus is to abort them.

Aborting guppi wus does not harm the project. It doesn't create false data. The wus just get resent to someone else further down track.

As to gaming (you may call it cherry-picking), interesting comment. The only ones that are truly gaming the system at the moment are those that are using the optimised SOG app on ATI as they can punch through them much faster than just about everyone else so they get a benefit over all the others. It's the nature of the world at the moment so good luck to them.

The credit system is already bonkers so really no impact on the integrity of the credit system through the use of a rescheduling tool.

Read the message from Matt in Technical News. He is receiving 250 TB of data every day, and may go to 1 PB. All this from Green Bank via the Breakthrough Listen initiative. We shall need every PC to process all this Big Data.

That's interesting to know and it also means that they will need to fix the issue(s) otherwise there is a very good chance that things will go belly up more so than they are now.

You may be absolutely right and I have no objections to WU's running for hours but I do object to not being able to do simple tasks such as browsing a web page without major lag.

Chris - Have you given any thought of adding another GPU to connect to your monitor? You can ignore it in your cc_config.xml file, thus BOINC will not attempt to assign any work to it. You can then take everything off exclusion, if you have any, and your lags will disappear. I have a 4770K w/ 2x gtx750Ti, that are stand-alone. I use my iGPU 4600 to handle the monitor and anything no associated with BOINC.

Or just unselect "use gpu while computer in use" in blind manager's computing preferences. That way the GPU's will be responsive while you are trying to use them.

I know the comment was not directed at me per say but I did search for it myself and found the commentary that was referred to. I also have v2.7 of reschedule in archive so no issue there. I am more interested in knowing what could be done rather than actually doing it (that is modifying Fred's thing), but if it comes to it I may have to implement a modified app however my preference is that the issue(s) get fixed and I don't have to resort to that.
