The above executable file is in my task manager 4 times and take up most of my CPU space. I think that maybe this is why MANY of my Seti tasks stop running. Can anyone tell me about this file and can I stop 3 of them from running? Will that hurt my output? I hope I am in the right board for this. Sorry and thx for any help you can provide. |

You have a four core CPU, so BOINC loads each core with one SETI@Home application. The simplest way of controlling the number of cores used by BOINC is to go to the "advanced" page of the BOINC manager, select the "options" tab, then Computing preferences". Near the top of this windows you will see a line "Use at most xx% of the CPUs. Change xx for the percentage of CPU cores you want to use - in your case 100%= 4 cores, 75%= 3 cores, 50%=2 cores and 25%= 1 core. Hit the "OK" button, then close that window. Next time you re-start the BOINC or the computer the number of cores used will be the number you have selected. Just noted - the actual application isn't a SETI@Home one, it looks more like one belonging to Asteroids@Home to me, but the solution is the same. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Next time you re-start the BOINC or the computer the number of cores used will be the number you have selected. Changes made in the local preferences in BOINC are used immediately upon clicking the OK button on the dialog windows. No need to restart BOINC or the computer. The Activity menu setting must be set to "based on preferences" to have most preferences work correctly. |
