Go for Raspian (which really is Debian Linux). If it's several years old, you'll may have to download to a PC/Mac/Linux box and unzip the files to the SD card. If so, Start by Googling the model and "Raspian install". eg. "raspberry pi 2 model a raspbian install" Alternatively, you may be able to re-initialise your Pi and update to the latest version. HTH PS. I'm going to put BOINC on my RPi2B tonight - I use it for development but it tends to sit around for several hours powered on and unused. |

The steps are pretty simple. First install the Boinc client software: I followed your steps and it worked. I just wanted to try it out, I don't want to dedicate the Pi to crunching. What is the command to set no new tasks? (Or you could link me to where I can find this info.) I'll let it finish the workunit it's working on, just to see how long it takes. The Universe is not only stranger than you imagine, it's stranger than you can imagine. SETI@home classic workunits 1,405 CPU time 57,318 hours ![]() |

but now I get an error message saying that it needs 32.00mb more disk space, and that 0mb disk space is available Thanks!! I added the following lines to the /etc/boinc-client/global_prefs_override.xml file (which is symlinked to /var/lib/blinc-client/): <disk_max_used_gb>10</disk_max_used_gb> <disk_min_free_gb>7</disk_min_free_gb> and that seems to have solved my problem. I did that on all my Pi's and now they're all busy crunching on Seti packets. I don't know if I could have used just one of them, and if so which one, but I put both in, and it seems to work, and on my Pi2's and Pi3's I get 3 unit's running at a time, so I guess that's how many it's supposed to do, one less than the number of cores on a multi-core machine? Now the last thing I need to do is put heat sinks on one of my Pi3's, I have them on my Pi2, and one of the Pi3's, but didn't have enough for all of the 3's when I set them up, and so far it's been ok, but with it working all the time I better hop to it, and get the heat sink installed! Thanks again! -MikeS |

Thank you! Any idea how long it would take to crunch a WU on a RasPi2? I guess around 35 hours or so? ![]() ![]() Founder of LAN-com |

Raspberry Pi 2 B - based on only 10 minutes of processing it's telling me to expect 218 hours. Obviously there's a lot of uncertainty in that number (especially as I have set it to not run when the computer is in use). No point in being impatient with SETI@Home - but everybody is of course. ======== Tasks ======== 1) ----------- name: 13my10ad.29630.14386.4.31.252.vlar_0 WU name: 13my10ad.29630.14386.4.31.252.vlar project URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ report deadline: Sat Jun 4 02:10:53 2016 ready to report: no got server ack: no final CPU time: 0.000000 state: downloaded scheduler state: scheduled exit_status: 0 signal: 0 suspended via GUI: no active_task_state: EXECUTING app version num: 802 checkpoint CPU time: 407.330000 current CPU time: 467.450000 fraction done: 0.000745 swap size: 69 MB working set size: 66 MB estimated CPU time remaining: 786297.484086 |

Ok just reinstalled it on my RasPi2 because of the news from Eric Korpela. Downloaded Boinc and added Seti@Home from the list. There was an info like "you really want to add this to your PC because it seems that there are no WUs for your PC". I clicked on yes and then it downloaded the first WU. 260 (!!!) hours for one WU. And another info was shown: 32 MB more diskspace is needed. My system: I installed Boinc on Raspbian. I installed it from "Noobs" and the diskspace is big enough. It's a 16 GB microSD card. ![]() ![]() Founder of LAN-com |

I clicked on yes and then it downloaded the first WU. That is just an initial estimate, a Normal AR Wu takes around 48 Hours, once your host has done 11 non overflow tasks then the estimate will be realistic. And another info was shown: 32 MB more diskspace is needed. Then increase the amount of Diskspace that Boinc is allowed to use in Your Computing preferences if you're using Web preferences, Or if using local computing preferences, just adjust in /var/lib/boinc-client/global_prefs_override.xml, disk_max_used_gb or disk_max_used_pct or disk_min_free_gb Claggy |

A.S.a.M - How'd you get it to work on the C2? I have the project attached and boinc seems to be ok according to boinccmd but it won't download any work or show any tasks. I must be missing a step somewhere. ![]() |

I must be missing a step somewhere. Try setting in your cc_config.xml the following: <cc_config> <options> <alt_platform>arm-unknown-linux-gnueabihf</alt_platform> </options> </cc_config> Then restart Boinc. Claggy |

That is what I figured, just thought I would ask. I just checked my logs on Seti's website and the first four work units took about 50 hours to complete. Not bad considering I will be leaving this running 24/7 just for this. ![]() |

Nearly all of the work units running on my Pi3 ends very quickly - between 30 minutes and 2 hours with a status of "Error While Computing". Everything running on my Pi2 completes as expected. How can I figure out what's going wrong? Task details for one of my more recent failures is below. <core_client_version>7.4.23</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63) </message> <stderr_txt> setiathome_v8 8.00 Revision: 3378 g++ (Raspbian 4.9.2-10) 4.9.2 libboinc: BOINC 7.7.0 Work Unit Info: ............... You might have to expand the file system type in a console sudo raspi-config then go through the menu and set it up properly best of luck |
