Unfortunately no GPU support on Rpi. Simply because BOINC has no ability to detect that the GPU. Whilst we would like all SoCs to be able to process GPU tasks the project admins would need to maintain another app version to accommodate the GPU and its associated plan classes and the testing, etc

Does this work with the Pi 1 Model B? Does it take advantage of the GPU? I know the CPU is pretty weak on this unit...

Yes it does work. No it doesn't use the GPU.

My video is up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcQaseUJeZI

Nice, EEVblog! .. and entertaining. LOL

Keep in mind that the entire list of projects on the BOINC Project List is supporting the Raspberry Pi. :-( My BOINC-Stats list shows the ones that do. .. and look for the Raspberry icon next to the project.

Message 1783982 - Posted: 1 May 2016, 16:42:40 UTC - in response to Message 1782525.

Hey all,
I've been trying for 4 days to install this on a pi 3, then a pi 2 and then a pi 1... cant get anything to work. I've tried different SD cards, messed with my router, followed every set of instructions and nothing seems to work.
The install seems to work but the manager can't seem to connect to the internet... So I open the BOINC manager but there's no projects to add (the lists are all empty.) I once got the lists to populate (not sure what I did) but when I tried to add Seti at home, it kept saying "Failed to add project, please try again later..."
Also, I don't seem to be getting the latest version, it always downloads version 7.4.23.

I've been an active supporter of SETI since 1999 and would love to get this up and running...
Anyone have any ideas?

Thats because the 7.6.22 version requires WxWidget which is horribly broken so it never got compiled for that version. You will have to do it yourself if you want to have that version you must compile yourself. Here is the link to compile it yourself compile

For not connecting please try to, in "advanced view" File -> Select Computer and then type "localhost" without quotation marks, if in "simple view" switch to "advanced view"

THANK YOU!!!!!!
I was going mad! This 5 minute project took me forever! I'm surprised no one else has reported this issue.
Listen, thank you so much! I haven't tried it yet (because I'm at work...) but when I get home tonight, I'll pull the pi out of the trash can (kidding) and give it another shot!

I owe you!!

I didn't see that problem, so I'm not sure how that will work out.

I would concentrate efforts on with the Pi 2 or Pi 3, since they are quad core. (I have a single core Pi zero, and it gives up too easy.)

So your issue seems to be with your network connection.. and so, let's work on that problem.

Are you running the latest Raspbian Jessie?

When I run ... on one of my Pi 2 machines, I get ...
uname -a
Linux raspberrypi02 4.1.19-v7+ #858 SMP Tue Mar 15 15:56:00 GMT 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux

Here's the quickie guide to all the network configuration commands and files:
route
ifconfig
netstat -nr
cat /etc/network/interfaces

Then extra things that shouldn't have to dig down into...
hostname
cat /etc/hostname
cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/nsswitch.conf
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Keep in mind, if you need to change something, you probably need to use "sudo" in from of the command to get root permission.

You might look at your router's settings to give you hints .. and maybe a windows that does work.

Here's my interfaces file... as an example... yours will be different.. (my router is connected to another router, so it's going to look funky!) .. I have my wi.fi configuration (wlan0) set to static, so I can log into/telnet a known IP address.
cat /etc/network/interfaces
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)

# Please note that this file is written to be used with dhcpcd
# For static IP, consult /etc/dhcpcd.conf and 'man dhcpcd.conf'

# Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d:
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet manual

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet static
    address 192.168.1.119
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    network 192.168.1.0
    broadcast 192.168.1.255
    gateway 192.168.1.1
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

allow-hotplug wlan1
iface wlan1 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Under the "iface" block, if you "go static", you need to work out all of those addresses. .. so, "go dynamic first"... get that working, then work out the details to get static going.

You might find some help under raspi-config that comes with Raspbian
you can command line execute it with
sudo raspi-config

If you're using the GUI... you might want to install wpagui. That can make it easy to look at your network settings ... or connect to the wi/fi:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wpagui

For BOINC (& SETI@Home) to work, your hosts file should contain the loopback with your hostname .. so even if the internet connection is working... boinc won't.
cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1	localhost
::1		localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
ff02::1		ip6-allnodes
ff02::2		ip6-allrouters

127.0.1.1	raspberrypi02

Note: raspi-config can help you set your hostname properly.. it knows how to do all the "peices & parts".. My problem with it and other gui tools is they don't let on what's going on under the covers, so when you get into trouble... you're in trouble!

Cheers!

Whoops I might have given slightly incorrect instructions. I thought that the manager couldn't connect to the client.
Also to the guy that has the problem, if something appears in notices with something like this: "BOINC can't connect to the internet" Also look at the event log to see anything out of the norms, to get into event log, use Ctrl + Shift + E
Then try the above

Is this normal that the same task give different output on x86 machine and on Raspberry Pi?
i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3.50 GFLOPS/core, 1 hours 53 min/task
Raspberry Pi 3 @ 1GHz, 0.69 GFLOPS/core, 1 days 1 hours 38 min/task

I underclocked Raspberry Pi 3 to 1 GHz because was too hot (83 Celsjus degree with small heatsink) and give errors.
Now in Seti@home I have about 250 ponits/day with this in /boot/config.txt - (Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie))
arm_freq=1000
over_voltage=-1 (but with large heatsink but without fan)
temp_limit=68 ( when temperature raise over 63 Celsjus degree system decrease CPU clock)

I have a Raspberry Pi 3, but not very knowledgeable about Linux/Debian. I installed the BOINC-Clent on my Pi. No BOIC Manager. I am doing everything headless (SSH). I installed V7 on my Pi and somewhere I read BOINC-Client is accepting tasks only from V8. I put V7 on my Pi using the below two line commands:
wget https://github.com/dcarrion87/boinc-rpi/raw/master/bin/setiathomev7-armv6l.tar.gztar xfz setiathomev7-armv6l.tar.gz

My BOINC-Client shows that

No tasks are available for SETI@home v8
09-May-2016 01:44:49 [SETI@home] Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home v8.

In your post you say V8 is available but no way can I see how to get it using the above like commands. You do say V7 is available at https://packages.debian.org/source/stable/boinc-app-seti. I thought when I saw this you would reference how to get V8 but I don't see that anywhere. Please help.

You don't need to install external apps, The app is available as a stock app, revert your installation of that obsolete app:

Setiathome applications

All you need to do is sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager then attach to setiathome, and then ask for work.

While I prefer to use the GUI BOINC Manager, for the Raspberry Pi Zero, I opted to use "Raspbian Lite" where these is no graphical frontend.

To get started with the command line tool: bloinccmd , you need to install boinc and boincmanager, as Claggy described with:
sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager

I refer to the link: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd_tool to work out the commandline details.

As stated, the general commandline form is
boinccmd [--host hostname] [--passwd passwd] command
.. For full permissions/access, under Raspbian/Linux you'll need to preceed the commmand with
sudo

With the commandline setup, it helps to have a pre-existing Account for each project that you want to setup. (although, there is a
--create_account
option that you can use.)

"Be Brave" with the commandline tools. It's not very likely that you'll hurt anything! It's a pretty good way of understanding how it works.

Best Wishes with your projects.
