The steps are pretty simple. First install the Boinc client software:

sudo apt-get install boinc-client


Next attach to the Seti project:

boinccmd --project_attach http://setiathome.berkeley.edu [YOUR KEY GOES HERE]


You can check the Boinc client log with:

cat /var/lib/boinc-client/stdoutdae.txt


And see the progress of the tasks with:

boinccmd --get_tasks


On a Pi 3, you might want to see the CPU temperature with:

vcgencmd measure_temp

Well setiathome_enhanced was the app name for v5/6 IIRC. We are currently on v8 with an app name setiathome_v8.

Hi. I have boinc installed on several Raspberrys as well as a BananaPi-Pro. When I first installed it, I got the error that seti@home had no work for them, so I stopped using them for seti. Since seeing that version 8 was available for the rpi's I once again tried setting them up to run seti, but now I get an error message saying that it needs 32.00mb more disk space, and that 0mb disk space is available. The thing is I have 32G SD cards in all of them with plenty of space available, so I don't know where the seti program is looking for space!

I'm also currently running Seti@home on 3 iMacs with no problems. Oh, I should mention, the Raspberry's are a PiB, a Pi2B, both running Raspbian Jessie, 2 Pi3B's running Ubuntu Mate, and the BananaPi-Pro is running Bananian Jessie, all are kept up to date, so any help as to getting Seti@home working on them would be appreciated! :)

Probably this is the limit in Boinc, not your free disk space (but as well to check that just in case).

If the later, just adjust in /var/lib/boinc-client/global_prefs_override.xml, disk_max_used_gb or disk_max_used_pct or disk_min_free_gb may be your problem.

I understand that the Raspberry Pi 2 is a slower computer than modern ones. Any idea how long a work unit will take on the Raspberry Pi 2? I followed this guide, https://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi2/blog/2015/05/20/setihome-boinc-on-raspbian-for-raspberry-pi-2, but it took around 100 hours to finish a work unit.

I love the idea of having a Raspberry Pi just sitting around all day working on Seti units. I am using the Raspbian lite version since I don't need the GUI running and eating up process units.

This is from 2015 Eric. They now configurated it for an ARM. The version you tried was not intended for the Raspberry or the ARM processors. Believe me - I did the same and my Raspberry Pi 2 also took around 80 to 100 hours for one workunit. Now they released a version especially for Raspberry (or let's say ARM structure) and because of this I'll try it again! :)

Odroid C2 (4x2GHz) 78000-80000 seconds
Raspberry Pi 3 (4x1.2Ghz) ~105000 seconds


The app creates fftw wisdom files in the slot directories (not coming from the project directory).
Are these created when the app starts, through built in routines that mimic fftwf-wisdom wisdom file generation?
Since they differ between hosts, they should be already "self-optimized", right?

I've had a Pi sat on my shelf collecting dust for several years now.
Glad I've finally found a use for it (Thanks SETI :) ).

So, in essence, I'll be starting from scratch, any recommended base OS to start with please?
