According to Boinc Statistics for the World, on March 25th I was given -87,210 credits. That's a lot of compute time poof-gone setting back my ranking by a whole lot. I've been a loyal contributor to SETI since June of 2000 but this leaves me wondering if I should continue. I used my resources for your benefit. Even if you couldn't use it for whatever reason I should still be given credit in my opinion. I noticed several other members also took a negative hit. How do I find out WHY this was done? |

Why do I lose credit in BOINC combined stats? When you attach to a new project, or reattach to a projects that restarts after a 'break' your CPID for a project can change. It takes a while for all projects to line up again. During this time, you may lose some credit in the combined stats, and sometime all credit will go to a new account with a new CPID. Detailed stats John Purretta In other words, it's not something BOINC or the project(s) did, but something that the statistics sites do when the cross project identifier is out of whack. It will fix itself when the CPID on all your computers aligns itself. |

Thank you for your reply and explanation. However I made no changes whatsoever to my projects. I've only been running SETI. The Climate Change project I'm no longer participating in. As I look at the statistics again I see LOTS of folks took a hit on the same day. Something else must have happened. |

Do you know about how long it takes for the CPIDs to re-align themselves? I'm glad that SETI isn't removing credits :) |

I noticed that many of the members whose credits were knocked down haven't even been participating recently. Their credits for the week are zero across the board except for March 25th when they were reduced. I'm convinced something happened on that day. BTW, I've been continuing to run SETI but my credits have remained at the reduced amount even after many tasked returned. I have doubts I'll be re-instated for the hit I took on March 25th. |

You did not lose any credit at Seti, you lost credit at Climateprediction.net, just as everyone who runs -or has run CPDN at one point in time- has lost credit there. I earlier linked to your statistics at BOINC Stats, and that shows that you only lost credit at CPDN. Looking at your last 40 days at Seti, you have not lost any credit here. So you're talking to the wrong project for getting the credit back. Now at the CPDN forums, there's the Total Credit thread, open it, scroll towards middle of March of 2016 and start reading, as there you'll see that it's been going on for some time now, that it's known to the administrators and that they're busy trying to figure out what caused it. They do know now that it's credit from archived models, not active ones. The administrator is running a script that compares numbers to an earlier snapshot, but with a BOINC database as large as CPDN's (multiple terabytes) that's going to take a while. |

Thank you! I knew something odd happened that day to many people but assumed it was SETI related as I hadn't contributed to Climate Prediction for a while. Thank you again for your research and accurate information! |
