Why do you think of it Jeff ? :(

I'm not planning on moving Mike.I was just dreaming about what I could do if I won the lottery and trying to think of interesting topics for new threads.

After reading these posts I am still happy with the Puget Sound region of Western Washington, the only caveat is you should tolerate moss. It is very green here.

There are places in your area which I enjoy. Like the San Juan Islands, but there are also placed that get over 100 inches of rain in a normal year. I would call your area a cold and wet area. Florida, hot and wet.

I was a military dependent growing up and have traveled and lived all over. Been here in Pacific Northwest Puget Sound area since '71. Love it. It's green here most year round. I like that. When in Eastern Washington working they called us 'Coasters' and 'Mossbacks'. Har! 8^)

The people in the documentaries and cooking shows I watch do. :-)

Just a twist on the question from "which state" to "which place." For a couple of years back in the early 70s, I lived on Guam (a US territory). Most people who've lived on Guam consider it a boring place to live. But (grin), some people actually like boring. Their cable TV system is on par with anything on the US mainland. They have 55mbps Internet that's cheaper than what I pay for my marginal CenturyLink DSL right now in rural Washington state. And housing & grocery costs are not all that different than in Washington. In fact, it's cheaper to live there than in Seattle (grin). There are doctors, dentists, hospitals, and plenty of infrastructure. English is spoken as the norm. And with my MagicJack phone (and its current Washington state number), I can call anywhere in the US and Canada for free. And for someone else to call me, costs would be the same as calling anyone else living in Washington state. BTW, US currency is used and a single US postage stamp will get mail to anywhere else in the US only a couple of days longer than it would take if I mailed a letter from Los Angeles.

Of course, if you're addicted to malls, regular popular music concerts, etc., you'd not like Guam very much.

Well the constant rain causes many people who move here to leave after a winter or two. It helps to keep the Californians where they belong.

Some of my family lives in southern Oregon, and mom says it rains there a
lot, too. I suffer from chronic depression and I'm not sure I could deal
with so much rain.

Must be on the western side then, Medford, Ashland or Grants Pass.

I always preferred Klamath Falls.

Might be because I grew up there.

Good for you Gordon!

edit:
I don't have an accent either, but I do speak
a different language than most other people I
have the pleasure to meet from day to day. Here
they use English much like in the American mid-
west. On the west coast they sound like Californians.
There are base forms of English used in North America,
and the American Southeast is where some of these base
English languages are spoken in their purest form....

Born in Wisconsin but raised in Central California.

Lived in San Diego (3 tours), Vallejo/SF Bay Area (2x), Idaho in the winter, Charleston SC (it snowed all three Januaries I was there), and Hawaii (3x), plus many port-calls in Guam and Adak, Alaska during my Naval career. Also visited Dunoon Scotland, Halifax Nova Scotia, Gander Newfoundland, and Andros in the Bahamas,.

I have relatives all over Wisconsin, in Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Florida, and Maine. I have enjoyed everywhere I have lived and visited, but am well-settled here in the San Joaquin Valley. I am an hour's drive to the snowy Sierras, and 2-3 hours to the Central Coast, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay, or the Mohave Desert. The cost of living is much lower here than in the San Francisco Bay area, but the summer temps (100F+) are a bit warm for some folks.

Some of the neatest things that ever happened to me happened in the United States. I remember being approached by a Lyndon Larouche election volunteer
just under the Space Needle in Seattle way back in the seventies. I became for a short time the only person serving on my ship who knew there were more than just democrats and republicans running for office in America. One time myself and some crewmates were walking along a street in San Diego late in the day, when we heard the best rock dancing music ever emanating from a small dance club. We noticed right away that no one would talk to us, or certainly no lady would dance with us. As we were getting more uneasy, an African American stepped up to ask us where we came from. After learning that we were all Canadians in two minutes beer started showing up, and the girls were more than happy to try to teach us all the new dance steps that we were just becoming aware of. Of course being a married man at the time my only concern was for dialogue and understanding between myself and our hosts. I remember once making the mistake of telling a great lady pool player in Pearl Harbor (Almost spelled it wrong.) that she was an ok player for a girl. As you can tell, I got out alive. I was once a shore patrol negotiator lesion between the Royal Canadian Navy, and the United States Navy in San Diego and I refused to carry even a night stick. We had to get all the Canadian sailors out of 'Bernie's' (My favorite bar in the whole city.) before the riot control guys from the US navy went in in full gear. No one died that night as well! I can tell from the people I meet in these forms that the people are much like us, and would be worthy friends and neighbours. Niagara Falls is beautiful from the American side.
Yes we could live in the republic.

we have been overtaken by franchises/chains so most places are about the same. you'll get your starbucks, subway, walgreens, walmart etc everywhere.

with that, i think southern california is great for weather, cost of living, and all around convenience. there aren't many places where you can hit the beach and go skiing in the same day.

I am one of those Florida residents.....Florida is an very interesting
mix - maybe more so than any other state.

Its not that "a lot" of people don't want latin or spanish people here.
What those people (myself) included is for anyone coming here to do it
the legal way - not sneak in.

One major barrier to that is the immigration system which is beyond slow
archaic and at times totally looney.........it needs to be vastly streamlined
and simplified. (shortened)

I'd love to have more folks come and join the adventure that is the USA.
